I'm getting the same insentive soon
probably not the best idea to go snap-on . they are good but they are really expensive. if you go Kingchrome or something you would get a much better tool kit.
where u doing an apprenticeship?
Finally after doing 9 months of my mechanic apprenticeship I am entitled to $800 dollars from the government to spend on tools I am going to spend $800 of my own money on tools so that gives me around $1600 all up I really want to just spend it all on snap-on but it's just so dam expensive but I think it's worth it I find that snap on is heaps better than Sidchrome. What are you thoughts?

ive always used sydchrome and have found them extremely nice to use, i would recommend it. having said that ive never used snap-on.

Just by like a 6 or 9 draw sidchrome tool chest with all the shit.
I got a full draw for insentive, came with an empty nine draw one too

With Super Thanks to AJPS for all your AE86 and BBQ needs.
iv'e used both snap-on and sidchrome i find that with the sidchrome that they round nuts off and i have to go and get the snap-on tools to get it. snap-on has never let me down
every one at my work usually gets a set of snap-on sockets and the rest sidchrome or kingchrome.
hey mate!
i've just done my first year of my mechanical apprenticship I only got 800 bux to play with though.. what i did was i went to AUTO1 they guy there hooked me up with a good package for exactly 800 bux. It was a Kinkrome set. it had ur 1/2, 3/8th, and 1/4 set in metric and imperial, u get the spaners 6 - 21 not 20 though. u have ur screwdrivers piller set, allen keys, and screw drivers. and of coarse the tool box. might be more i forgot
With money i save up i bought things that were missing in my box like pry bars, ratchet spanners ( A MUST! ) rattle gun ( i got CP as i saw from other mechanics SUPERCHEAP guns are SHITHOUSE!) impact sockets, torque bars 3/8 and 1/2, mulitmetre, air ratchet, hammer, impact screw driver, micrometres verniers. all kinkrome except for the rattle gun. and i just kept peeking at other mechanics tool boxes and c what they used and made a list of what i wil need later on.
i just turned 2nd year and i am entitled to 500 bux which you get for completing ur first year with this i will buy my roll cab!..
Hope you find tools that ur comfortable with. Sidchrome also have great packages i just went for the cheapest tools i could find which had a decent set for my 1st year. Snap on are great tools but are so expensive yet they are very comfortable tools.
cheers
jace
hey yeah i would say go for sidchrome. ummm snap-on are great tools but like ervryone said are expensive. in saying that i was told that they give you a lifetime wrannty on them.
i would go for sidchrome just as good. i think cheaper as well. i think we all knoe this but what ever you do get drop forged tools. which ever brand you choose it will last you a long time.

i wish i had enough money for a freaking corolla
japanese air tools are very very fucking good, and alot easier on the wallet than snap on
ill only buy snap on for specialist tools, like hex keys and really screwed up shape snappers and stuff.
shit they you always break, like pry bars, hammers etc dont buy expensive ones, coz you go through them alot...
most of my tools are japanese or european (wurth)...but i need to buy a few alot more agian, as i have a nasty habit of losing sockets!
kingchrome or sidchrome, teng tools are also very good, they have a heap of specialty mechanic tools as well. thats what ive used so far and havnt had dramas yet
