It would be the gearbox as the noise goes away when the clutch is disngaged. Mine does the same thing, it's just backlash between the gears. Probably would not hurt to check the gearbox oil level though, for peace of mind.
Just noticed my 4age is making a knocking sound when Im idling.... (96kw JDM) I havent driven it bar once or twice in the last 6 months and just took it for a proper drive today.. pretty certain that it never made this noise before............
however........ Im not sure if its coming from the engine or gearbox area.. as the noise stops when I put the clutch in...
Im hoping its not a bearing.... as it drives fine and runs like normal.. wtf could it be....?
any help would be most appreciated...
Cheers..

Im hoping thats all it is... gearbox was just recently installed along with fresh oil so there should be plenty of oil in it...
sounds like the thrust bearing on the clutch... mine has exactly the same problem. changing the bearing will fix it.
yeah thrust bearing.... not hard to fix man... just a buy a bearing then u will have to take it somewhere to get it pressed on... not really that bad... wont hurt to drive it though
yeh the noise will vary between cars but dont think it will go away... it slmost sounds like a bottom end knock... but its the thrust bearing... my dads westfield clubman does exactly the same thing and he has srivin only 250kms so far so it may not go away wiht a new one
cool, cheers for the help lads..
This is the noise your car makes when its telling you to drive it more often.
Insert witty comment here....
lack of license kind of prevented that mate..
cheers mate I'll keep that in mind........ any idea how much a new bearing is..?
also dosnt seem to make this noise all the time... it sort of comes and goes...........
