running rich is to much fuel and not enough air, search google and you could have got the anserw in 2 seconds
Hi i was wondering what running rich is, sorry if this is a noooby question. i heard it was something with the air/fuel ratio
i was just wondering how bad it is, and how it can happen, and of course what it is exactly.
the car in question is my frends brothers S12. and he wanted me to post on here to found out more.
thx

Basically as said before running rich means the car is consuming a larger fuel/air ratio that it would normally. It isnt a terribly bad thing, however it does make a car have less power
As stated, too much fuel not enough air. Commonly caused (in a fuel injected car) by a faulty sensor such as - oxygen sensor in your exhaust, water temp sensor to the ECU (Computer thinks the car is cold all the time when it's not).
Might be an easy fix but it may drive you nuts trying to fix it.

..better to run too rich than too lean. Rich is safe but makes less power, lean makes power but doesnt leave much room for safety.
rich is safe.. but if you have the wrong timing set all the fuel in the world won't help out, each are as important as eachother.. fuel mixture, and timing..
If it's running rich, make the most of it and give it more timing!!
Or if it's a turbo motor, more boost.
