Hey dude, not sure on what is required to mod an 86 rad to fit, but the new ASI radiators on ebay for $250 are good for the price, I have seen one in the flesh and the quality was quite good
The person selling them lives in Mt Waverley so you can pick it up rather than post.

Hey dude, just go and get a 3SGE radiator from a wrecker with the twin thermos still connected. Even an average one won't over heat. They're killer.

As poor as it is in delivery, I agree with the above post.

An ST162 radiator (unsure if they actually had a 5SFE?) is an excellent budget choice. Grab one from a picky wrecker. As for mounting, the drivers' side bottom mount unbolts, so grab two of those. Unfortunately the passenger side mount is welded on. It might actually be the other way around, I forget. The top mounts both bolt on. Measure and mark it, drill some pilot holes and Tek-screw (self tapping screws) it into place.

From memory, Craig_AE86 off the old forum used a combination of the ST162 and AE71 radiator hoses to achieve his final result using exactly the method described above, without thermofans. The original clutch type fan was retained.

You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

Agreed, the needle seems to get to 1/3 (operating temperature) and wedge itself there, no matter how hard you thrash your car.
