casting is the pouring of molten metal into a cast.

grain structure is the same everywhere in the piston. this gives an equiax grain structure that that has no strong points. it will hold together but when put under enough pressure it will break.

forging is where metal is heated to a solidus state (highest temp possible before liquidisation) and then forced into shape.

when refering to pistons this is done by a mechanical press. this gives an elongated grain structure around the surface of the piston which holds together much better when under pressure.

i remember reading a thread on the old dc? someone that actually tested the pistons. i cant rememeber how they were formed. but i remember they werent forged.

still definatly stronger than GE standard bottom end though. just not forged

That is all well and good. But can you look at a piston and know by the flash marks wether its forged or cast?

Also, is there any Toyota sourced info stating which pistons are forged or cast? (club4ag does not count).

    my advice is buy a rearcut from a supercharged MR2 (AW11 4AGZE)

use aftermarket ecu (adaptronic, microtech, motec etc) to get rid of the AFM as the mr2s use this standard then u can tune it to run as much boost as you see fit without making the ecu shit its pants and start crying

    buy turbo and manifold

whack it in with the box from the rearcut as ive been told the s/c versions have the LSD box

    thrash it

for wheels, from memory the aw11 have a 4x100 stud pattern, so thats a start
the one my cousin just bought has 4x100 to 4x114.3 spacers on it so if you want to do that then you must sacrifice in offset

    thats about all i know

    hope i helped

yep 4x100 pattern. bit of a pain as most 4x100 is fwd poo. nothing made really wide in the aussie land that is 14-15inch
