i've had a few pm's in regards to how to get a workable handbrake in a KE when using an S or T series with AE86 cables. this also applies to T18 diffs and cables into an 86 but be smart and switch the cables

now from memory there is one bolt in option

    KE70 + T series + T18 cables

others need to be done like this

    KE70 + T or S series + AE86 cables = Gillyspec super custom mounting

basically the cables aren't long enough to reach the hanbrake lever section if you use the original KE mounting points so you need to improvise and use them but a little differently

    pics show how its done

i've used this method in both my KE's and never had a drama

basically the bolt is tensioned onto the steel cable surround and stops it from falling out. now when the cable is pulled tight it will want to go towards the front of the car however

    1. the bolt is holding it tight
    2. the bolt is stopping any forward movement as it is contacting a lip which prevents it from moving forward.

^^^ just in case you don't know where that little mount is

I did the same thing but i managed to get that little bracket back in the right spot.

My handbrake works mint as even if my brakes are out of adjustment.

Pretty sure i undid that little mount/bolt and the adjustment in the car and then put the cables on the brakes and then put the mount back in the right spot and adjusted them up correctly

ahh yep i think i can see what you've done, ill have to stick my head under the car to see what it looked like originally...

also off topic, that black wiring loom attached to the fuel/brake lines? whats that? that power to fuel pump or something?

(im pretty certain i dont have that in my ke)

    you won't

its a fuel hose wrapped in loom tube and taped up

i tried that Craig but the cable was then not long enough to reach the lever or it did and it had like zero travel

think i tried switching the actaual lever cables over as well and that didn't work

any chance you have T18 cables as they will bolt up fine

Still having trouble with the handbrake in my car at the moment, almost 100% sure that the cables are T18 ones.

The action of the lever feels firm when it goes tight, yet it doesn't seem to do anything to slow the rear wheels. I have got new wheel cylinders, drum shoes, maybe i need the drums machined?

this is a problem that happens with commodores. t

the handbrake is tight but doesnt slow the car. usually its the adjustment at the wheels, but when the drum is real glazed up, this stops them from working too.

lemme know if you need em machined, can be done for free....by me

Yeah, ive adjusted it at the drum so that it grabbed then backed it off a tiny bit so it drags really lightly and it still doesnt do anything. I might get you to machine em Huw, ill PM ya about it, cheers!

i have to use the stock cables in my keto for my t series... do they actually fit into the drum? cuz they look a bit too small at the end between where they bolt into the drum and then that bit links up to the brake? or should i just get t series lines?
