Well, you need the gearbox and clutch off of course. Then you need to take off the black plate, which is just 1 or 2 little bolts. It is best to have the sump off, but you don't need to. The retainer has a few little bolts, 10mm socket. Easy. Then to get it off once everything is undone you may need to lever it off.

To put it back on I don't use a gasket. Just silicon.

Put some grease on the inside lip of the oil seal. The seal should be pressed into the housing dry.

    sorry forgot to mention

i already have everything off including the 6 10mm bolts that holds the retainer in..but it seems to be stuck on pretty hard and the screwdriver prying in between retainer and block doesnt seem to work...any ideas?

Yeah, its stuck on. Its easier if your sump is off. That way you can bash it with a bit of wood from inside.

They do as ive done this before. If your just changing the rear main seal, you don't need to remove the retainer plate. To get the old seal off, you just need to gently tap it with a flat head screw driver and hammer to break the old one and pry/pull it out. Its less mucking around than taking the retainer off as they can be tricky to re-seal up with the sump still on. If your scared about damaging it, you can take off the plate.

    Hope that helps

oh thx dude ..dats y i couldnt get the retainer off..

yea im just changing the rear main seal..
i have given up trying to take the retainer off so ive started to try take off the seal w/o removing the retainer..

tap on which part of the seal? the rock hard part?..

ive just cut the soft lip part..tried to pry it out but i have to push the screwdriver towards the crank if you know what i mean.. din try too hard coz im afraid of damaging it..didnt seem to move 1 bit

also a question for later..what do i use to press the seal in?apart from the SST

Tap into the rock hard part of the seal while keeping it toward the outer edge of the seal (the part that meets with the retainer plate). Be patient, use small screw drivers to begin to pry it out then get a bigger one as you continue to pry it out. Hope that made sense

The new seal can then be pushed in with your fingers Just be sure to put some fresh engine oil on the new seal so it doesn't melt after running for a few seconds on its first start
