You just have to play around with it. Have the belt retractor in the verticle position as it would be in the car. Othersize just bolt it back into the car in the normal position and see if it will come out.
I have a 1987 Toyota Corolla GTS and I've been searching for days how to reinstall the stock seatbelts. After I took them out the seatbelts locked on me and I cannot pull it back out. I would appreciate it greatly if anyone can give me an answer to this! THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!

toyota engineering at its best
They will work when bolted in... A little ball acts as a weight
its hard to explain, but once there bolted in they will work.
took me around an hour to figure it out
i had this problem with the rear seat belts, frustrated the hell out of me. after 45mins i thought screw it whos gonna be in the back anyway so i bolted them in and pulled on the belt without really thinking and to my surprise it just worked. i think it has something to do with a little weight inside there.
