when would the size of the bigger ports on a bigport actually matter? like are they better size for turbo? or is it just a myth??
well the smallport is like 2% better, so not like everyone is ganna go throw away their bigports lol
all depends on budget, availability, blah blah google

I bought my motor from a ae82 rally car. It was a smallport bottom end with a bigport head. go the hybrid.
"The Supercharged 4AGZE has a steel crank, stronger block than the earlier models and forged pistons (which is why they rattle a little until they warm up), so if you want to build a turbo engine then this is an excellent starting point. People have also used this engine’s crank and block as the basis for naturally aspirated race engines. In many ways the earlier 4AGZE engine is better for high horsepower as it has bigger head ports and slightly lower compression."
not sure if this still applies for the Bigport NA 4AGE though.
cbf arguing
big port owns small port heads.
big port head + ae92 bottm end = winner!
From what I understand and what my engine mate said....
The only difference... Is the intake port size... Daa.
The problem lies in that...Big port ports are too big and small ports are a little small when you start to get semi serious with your engine build.
Small ports are great for drivability do to the higher air speed than the big port head.
But you can theoretically make more power if you start witha big port head...
I'm about to try and make a new manifold for my Bigport engine on the weekend that with choke the port size down a little to increase air speed but still flow HEAPS better than the factory BP mani...
Let you guys know how I go... Hopefully camera is sorted buy then and can get some pics...
you could always start with a bigport head and go crazy with the port putty and make it how every you want.
really it doesn't matter
when 95% of people put a 4age in there Corolla's they can't afford to mod them, let alone get them running and drivable!
so assuming you are going to have a stock 4age, with the most basic mods (induction, exhaust, as anything else actually cost a shit load of money!) I would go with a smallport, it revs happier, I have had more fun in a smallport than the bigports because to me the bigports seem to have a slower response and less top end, but this would all be measured in Microns!
not really looking for speed. more high revs and acceleration/torque. want my setup more to suit street drifting etc.
stock 4age can do street sliding fine but its not exactly competative against most cars out there unless you sink money into it a bit, then you will realise n/a is pricey.
yea just street drifting..... if im good enough one day il be driving at winton instead of spectating
