Bought the car 2 years ago, and was used as a knock around for the first year, then thoughs of a GE swap sounded like the way to go. Not wanting to spend a heap of money on the little clap-trap, me and a couple of mates ended up striping and mounting a spare CA18 that we had lying around one weekend. Another month later of stuffing around(wiring, plumbing, etc..)and here is my little shit-box racer.
the motor is a stock S13 spec CA18DET(quick reseal, t-belt, w-pump, etc.), home made plumbing(including part of a yabbie pump), modded JZX81 intercooler, Modded turbo cordia radiator with twin 12" thermos, 2.5" exhaust from the dump, single straight through muffler.
Excedy H/duty clutch onto standard S13 5 Spd, cut/shunt tailshaft onto stanard bog-warmer rear end.
A second hand set of king 'lows' from a mates '86 and thats about it for handling(scary.. i know)
interior has a set of old stratos seats, boost guage and water temp(hidden under the dash top infront of the old radio position) and an autometer driver board wired up to the original tacho/cluster.
boot houses the battery, lift pump, surge tank and a 'VL wagon' supply pump. brazed new pick up lines into the tank, and runs 3/8 stainless fuel line.
don't usually take it out on fri/sat nites, not too keen on getting defected!
though it hasn't been out lately at all.
I'm in the middle of a rebuild right now(spun big ends, 9000 rpm will do that to ya) changing suspension, diff, wheels and re-enforcing the body/chassis (split the windscreen in half the first day i built the thing)
so the car went in to the garage for a strip down(engine knock on idle) bout a few weeks ago. so here a pic of her current state.
stripped the motor down and found a few shagged big eng shells(3 out of 4 actually)
No.2 crank pin has a bit of a scuff on it(i think it went for a lap of honor)
so while it's all apart here's a short list of what in the pipe line
*rebuild=>bearings, slugs, MLS headgasket, headstuds, reworked head, etc.
*s13(JIC) front coilovers, R32 non-turbo rotors/calipers(same as SR S13).
*78series Borg warner(from R31 skyline), r31 rear discs/calipers.
*falcon springs/sierra shocks(rear)
*strip interior, remove deadener, seam weld and brace floor pan.
then depending on budget, probably a new KKR blower and new ecu.
r31 diff compared to ae71 plus spare silvia parts.
