    Hey guys

the old girl needs to go over the pits and i have jap doors. my question is "Is it sacralige to bolt in a side intrusion bar, into a jap spec door"
are these rare? worth money? would you shoot me for doing this? or are they nothing special?
just need to know before i go drilling holes and bolting things in

From my understanding (not experience) the pits tend to not like anything thats not factory and brand spanking new lol... Even if it does make the car safer

I may have misunderstood your question, but if you have no reason for the intrusion bars to be in before your car goes to the pits, i would suggest waiting till afterwards...

As for jdm doors, dont think there is much difference... correct me if im wrong though, shouldnt intrusion bars be fixed between the base of the A and B pillars (preferabley to a cage) rather than the door?

It depends what state your in, what you mean by "the pits", and what workshop you go to. You could mean a rego roadworthy cirtificate, or rego as a rally car, or import compliance, or engineering cirtificate for mods. Before you go drilling into the car, present the car for inspection at the workshop (with door trims and everything on), say nothing, and wait for their list of requests.

If you need side intrusion bars, it would be a much better job to swap to Australian doors. I have a set here if you want to swap.

It's a pretty common thing in WA at least. To rego an import you need to get side intrusion bars, as jdm didn't come with them.

pits is a qld thing i doubt they will check for intrusion bars in the doors they would have to remove the doorcards to see them anyway

I live in sa and the car has come from wa so it needs to go threw a rego change inspection. I have had an enginear have a look at the car to write a report for the ze and brake upgrade and he said it will have to have side intrusion bars put in the door. It is a ADM car but has had JDM doors put on it. ill try and sneek it past if not i will put some bars in. i just wanted to ask if thats the done thing or if i would get a response of "YOU DID WHAT TO A JDM DOOR???" every time some one found out.

well, they dont bolt in. theyre welded in when jap cars are complianced, and on an adm car, theyre sandwiched between the door skin and frame.

your best option is to source some adm doors.

the stuff ive seen fitted to jdm doors is pathetic.

but ive seen first hard just how well the factory toyota "corrugated" style intrusion bars works post side impact test.

i think its an important safety feature, and would always prefer adm doors on a jdm car. wouldnt run jap doors unless i have a serious cage with a double x intrusion bar.

its an ADM car, 99.9% chance they wouldnt even blink an eye as to whether it has side intrusion bars. has the engineer specified that it doesnt have them in the certificate/report? then i guess itd be a different story

well yes. though thats not a double x, thats probably even better as far as side impact protection goes.
