    Default rwd 3sge. What dizzy???

A mate and i are putting a 3s in his 71 and were just going to mount the engine forward so the dizzy will clear the fire wall.

But i was curious as to what others have done to change the dizzy so the engine can be mounted further back?

Iv heard that you can use the internals of some sort of mitsubishi dizzy mated to the 3s one to run external coils with a ignition ecu.

Leave the 3S-GE dizzy in there, just take the cap and rotor off. Then make a low profile cover for it on the lathe.

If you already have a aftermarket computer, it will be easy to run 4 coils, or two twin coils, or 4 coil-on-plug things.

Then you have to remove all the rear water housings also and modify that setup.

One mate mounted the motor a fair way back, and kept the dizzy cap and stock water setup, and just cut his firewall heaps. It is a nightmare to work on, don't do this.

Mount the motor in a normal position, low profile dizzy cover, 4 coils, modifyed water setup.

    "a 3s"

    there are 5 versions.

a gen 1 has quite a "tall" dizzy. if you mounted the engine so far forward it didnt hit the firewall, in a 71......

gen 2 is lower profile and will fit a gen 1.

    dunno about the gen 3.

    everything else is cas/cop

ill be running a gen2 dizzy in my gen1 with a low profile cover replacing the dizzy cap and coil on plug.

Gen 3 dizzy is nice and low profile too, not sure if it will fit gen1 but i'm happy to measure mine if you need me to.
I've converted to front mount distributor on mine as it makes it easier to retain the stock computer that I need for engineers certificate. Also quite a bit cheaper than COP.

I can take some pics after easter if you like?

slydar: its a gen1 sorry i thought i posted it up. Will you be running a stock ecu?? or igniton ecu?
I had noticed that the dizzy was very tall hence the question

af300e: Pics would be sweet. Did you make the brackets to mount the dizzy?
