I whip around on nearly a daily basis in a wrp10, there nice, alot more responsive than an sti too. Suspension is pretty stiff for a factory road car.
evo x is looks waaaaaaay better than anything ever made by subaru though

mmm... personal preference, but I'm definitely going back to post 32 in this thread in defense of that comment!

its common knowledge that the pajero, lancer, and the evo, come out of different factories,

where a wrx is renown for breaking boxs and wrecking clutches, lancers dont, the 4g63 is regarded as the best 4cyl turbo engine for terms of performance, outright power abilities and reliability, wrx's have frequent problems related to diffs, evos dont,

you cant compare a standard lancer to an evo, evo has aluminum body parts etc basically an entirely new shell with the same headlights and brake lights, its less of a comparison than the impreza vs sti.

WRX are renown for breaking 5 speed boxes because they're a complete split case gearbox, which isn't a surprise given the case is near identical to the original Leone box...

The 6 speed case (whether it's using a 6 or 5 speed gear set) its near unbreakable, and the failure rate certainly isn't higher than that of a late model Evo... The 6 speed case use a tunnel type casing for the gearset (similar to evo), then using a split case first half to house the front diff.

    True...
With regards to late model Evo and STi, alot of it comes down to the fact that the Evo has always run a better turbo (twin scroll) than the road going STi. The late model RS 2.0L STi actually run the same twin scroll turbo, and with the same restrictor as the 4G63, actually puts out a bucket load more torque.

Agree with you that in a road car the 4G63 is definitely cheaper, easier and more reliable to get power out of, but as far as competition cars go, they're near identical in all respects.

Definitely not the case with Evo 7 though...

    Absolutely!!!

-Thats is because your comparing a ~25k lancer to a 60k evo, and then your comparing a 40k wrx to a 60k sti.

Thats where the difference lies, and that is why the evo differs so much from the lancer

Also I think you'll find that there alot less gearbox problems with STI's.

Fuck it, but a GTR lol

You're comparing a standard wrx (40-50k) to an evo (60-65K). The EVO is only comparible to the STI (same price range). The car thats comparible to the normal WRX is the ralliart lancer which is an absolute peice of crap!
The wrx gearbox isn't known for it's strength, but then the car isn't designed as an all out sportscar that can do clutch dump starts (like many retards do). If you are sensible with the gearbox they don't give problems. The STI gearbox is extremely strong and was actually designed with clutch dumping in mind. Both WRXs and EVOS are hard on clutches - all AWD cars are, but the evo makes it easier with things like the 4500rpm rev limiter when standing still etc.

As I recall some of the evo 7's or 8s had some recurring drivetrain problems.

Meh 4g63. 3s is better. Never liked the sound of the 4g63 - just bland and rough.
You can't compare a normal wrx to an STI. Most of the stuff that matters is completely different.

    Yep, that's putting it nicely...

Right down to the little stuff, like sodium filled exhaust valves!

Either way I'd have a BMW 135i coupe over both the evo and the wrx anyday. :d
