Engine Bay Temps.

Hey people, just wondering what most of you put around your extractors etc.. to keep the engine bay temps down? and how would you rate it.

I used a sheet of ACL heat shield and bent it into shape to suit. As an indication to how good it works, I once went for a good hour drive to the track on the highway and got out to check the engine bay out...I touched the heat shield material straight away and it was warm, not extremely hot that it could burn my hands. Engine bat temps were pretty good too. The good thing about this stuff is you can cut it easily with aviation or tin snips and bend / beat it into shape really easy too.

exaust heat wrap helps to

I had some looms melting with heat from the turbo/dump pipe.

I also got some ACL Heat Sheild ($55 sheet on Sale @ Super Cheap Auto) and cut/bent to suit. It works very well and I have no further melting problems.

In an attemp to lower the under-bonnet temps further, I would like to wrap the dump pipe, but I need to read more about the wrap first. Will a $15 roll of eBay work as well as a $70 roll from Autobarn ?!?!

The expensive HPI or whatever it's called shit from autobarn/repco is good stuff. See if you can get it through trade somewhere, not much cheaper I've found but yeah. My old extractors were wrapped in it and it worked wonders, could grab any runner of the extractors after a drive and it would be hot, but not burn. Definately keeps temps down alot.

Mine tore in a few spots cause it went all the way from the extractors to the cat and ended up unravelling and pretty much falling off due to rubbing over speed bumps and shit on the lower parts of exhaust.

If you're really serious about exhaust temp controll. Get the exctractors HPC coated and then run heat wrap over it.

And then pull out the rear rubber bonnet seal. Mine has both removed as the front one was ratshit, definately lowers temps too.

Only thing to consider is if you heat wrap the exhaust manifold then the heat gets trapped in it. Which is what you want, but it may cause it to crack if the manifold isn't particularly great quality.
