dude just get it recondioned. had mine done today. relatively inexpensive too.
My brake master cylinder is leaking pretty badly, and pedal feels crap.
AE86 master cylinders are no longer available at 2 different parts stores i went to.
is there anything i can interchange it with??
do AE71 master cylinders fit??
(i know its going backwards but the bore is the same diameter and they have similar brake setup's)
anyone got any ideas??

NEW QUESTION!!
ok so i have a spongy pedal, but its rock hard with the engine off...
i've flushed the fluid - didn't change
replaced the master cylinder - didn't change
the wheel cylinders are ok (not leaking)
what do i check next??
could it be poorly adjusted drums??
Did you bleed it correctly?
Poorly adjusted drums will cause a low but firm pedal.
You could just be worried and it might just be normal booster operation.
yeah not really spongy, its low but firm,
the first half fells spongy and the second half of pedal travel feels like a normal brake pedal,
and yeah bled them correctly, the first time,
air may have gotten in when i put the master cylinder in but i doubt it was much,
You need to rebleed after fitting the new master. That could well be causing your issues.
Hen
you should but technically you don't have to,
i was told to put it in and then crack off the fluid lines,
get someone to slowly depress the pedal as you tighten the fluid lines up again,
which should get rid of most of the air,
took it to work today, pulled the rear drums, the linings weren't adjusted up at all,
adjusted the rear linings and the pedal came good,
yeah, i was bout to say, pull the handbrake up a few clicks and if the pedal comes good then its just the adjustment of the shoes.
bet me too it
