    Default Questions about my 4agze

    Hey all, just starting my rebuild and there's a few thing's i am not too sure about. First off, mine is an ae92 engine, with a cam angle sensor + coil pack setup (no ecu at the moment). Does that make it a bigport or a smallport? Also i need to get new bearings and rings etc, but I'm not sure what parts are the same as a 4ag and which are different. I am also using a 4ag engine manual as my guide for this build, are the torque settings the same?
    Last question, should I stay with the sc12 setup, or go turbo if im just running a stock T50? I was be running about 14 psi and I want to avoid breaking gearboxes as much as possible.
    Thanks for your time, this is my first 4a build

    its a smallport. stick with the supercharger setup. its not really a question of 'just going turbo', theres a bit more into that then there sounds, and its a fairly pricey exercise (if u want to do it properly). you will break gearboxes running 14psi through a SC, i have fucked 2 on 11psi. hence why im doing the Wbox conversion. but it will run fine with a t50 if u treat it nice.

    Your engine should be a smallport, but by far the easiest way to check is to look at the intake port spacing. Smallport are spaced evenly 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, whereas bigport have a bigger gap in the middle, 1 - 2 gap 3 - 4.

    Your T50 could last a long time if you treat it nicely. But your should probably consider it a consumable behind a reasonable SC or turbo engine.

    PS, and you can use your GE manual for everything. The only differences you'll find are the obivous ones (like the SC hanging off it) and the pistons.

    Could be a smallport if its running a map sensor, not afm. Remember ae92 had cas and coil packs on both the early and late version (early bigport, late small port). Check for external oil drain at rear of head (intake side), small port will have one.

    My t50 is still going (un-opened), lifetime behind 4ac, 1year behind 4age, and 1year behind gze @12-14psi (including 6 drift sessions). I dont drive quick shifting on street, I match revs on down shifts/double clutch, pretty much no sudden torque changes (the opposite of which kills them).

    Here's a pic of my inlet manifold;

    So i guess by the spacing of the ports that it is a bigport? I have decided to go with the sc12 and t50. If it dies, I'll do a W box setup. Another thing, do get the valves out my manual says i need a Toyota SST, could i just use a generic tool for that? I have access to my work's engine rebuild tools i'll be using from time to time during my rebuild.

    bolt on a t25 boosting about 6psi and never look back. gearbox breaking is all in how you drive.

    i thrashed the crap outta my last ae86 with a ae92 smallport gze sc12 pushing 14psi. i NEVER had any garbox issues.

    double clutching and rev-matching wins the day.

    6psi on a bigport 4agze would give you same response of a jdm bigport. Boost it to aleast 10psi , should give you a 13's 1/4 pass so it will be fun to drive aleast
