Basically I just wanted to know if going mandrel bent over press bent would be worth it.
Im running a smallport 4age which will most probably remain stock for a while.

Its an extra $140 to get mandrel bends in my piping over press bent.
The guy at the exhaust place i rang for a quote told me getting mandrel bends in a 2" system, for a car making 100kw is overkill and i might get an extra .5 kw out of it.

    What do you guys think?

Ill be doing it for sure when i go 4age. Don't know why he would have said that 2" mandrel was overkill on a 1.6 because it is definately not!

It will give slightly more power/torque, and also sound better. If its under diff then there arent many bends so its probably fine but if going over diff then id go mandrel.

he referred to the mandrel bends being overkill
he said i should just go with press bends

"mandrel bends in a 2" system is overkill"

    exact words

unless its a race engine and your trying to extract those last few fractions of kw's. pressed bends will suffice.

if you go press bend and keep all of the bends under 25 degrees angle it will be no different to a mandrel system. are you running an under diff system?

well im still running the car stock height
but it will soon get a new suspension setup (the car will never be illegally low)

i was thinking over diff would be better (as i also want to replace my diff soon too)

frankly i dunno what to do

i used to have an ae86 with 20v and 2.25 system that went under the diff.
just make sure you get a flange put on about half way down the system so you can remove the back half of the exhaust to remove the diff (i've done it without taking off the exhaust anyway)

    ok

so pretty much if im going under diff press bends will be ok (shouldnt be any large angled bends)

and going under diff will be ok as long as my car isnt stupidly low

mandrel bends suck and press bends are worse again if u want perfomance invest some cash in a decent exhaust , sectional welding is the way to go but thats only if ur willing to fork out some seriouse dosh , if not go mandrel as they dont cause as much of a restriction as press bends , put it this way press bending is crushing the exhaust from a round 2" or whatever into an oval shaped smaller dia thus restricting flow and performance. :2thumbs:
