Oh, I've gone and done it, I've dropped the "C" word.
I run 6-4.5, seems spot on for a daily, infact reckon heavier rates would be a step
backwards handling wise.
Car would be too loose on the shitty roads they love to serve us up.
Upgraded sway bars with this spring combo would be sensational, remove some of the body roll, and still have some sort of comfort

Hi markiitourerv,
So your saying that your setup of 6/4.5 would be too lose on the shitty roads or are you referring to heavier rates as I have plenty of them around where I live (not too much, just a few here and there), and down my long street there are a few big pot holes and with stiff suspension it would be very damaging to the car and me lol. Now I'm confused original thought was 6/4 now I was thinking more of 5/4 or I could possibly go 5.5/4.
spring rates are always a compromise.
I'm really happy with my combo comfort wise, and reckon it would be better
again with better dampers, but any softer would show up handling wise without
upgraded sway bars, also tyre clearance would have to be upped with softer springs.

8/6 in a daily driven car 60kms a day on adelaides shitty roads and I live near the tree root ridden roads in the hills. Had this set up for years.. yeah its not comfortable, but I've had softer and wouldnt go back.
On the track, I was wishing it was stiffer.
All comes down to a style of driving I guess, I prefer the stiffness for sure.. but I dont like the shocks having to strong a rebound, makes undulating roads dodgy
Why don't you get the softer springs for comfort but get some good sway bars to stop the body roll, get the best of both worlds then...
I'm running a Greddy Coilover setup in my car suppose to be 8f and 6r and it's not bad at all for street. I think the hashness of the ride on the street has a lot to do with the shock absorber you're running. I set my shock about half way and the car is actually quite comfortable on 90% of the road except for the really rough stuff.
Yep the shocks are more the items you should be fine tuning. I noticed a better ride running my TRD blues at a lower setting on 6kg rears than going to a lower rate spring with the shocks still set high.
tried some s/hand pajero rear shocks in mine and with 4.5kg springs it felt
like diff was fixed to body, so yeah correct choice of shocks REALLY makes a difference.
New cars these days are a lot stiffer (and handle better) than what stock cars had in the 80s. Therefore, get a stock AE86, replace all rubber bushes, 6/4 or 7/5 kg/mm springs, and it will feel like a new car. But this only works if you have new shocks that come close to matching the springs.
