    Default Street Suspension Recommendations

    Hi Guys/Girls,

What kind of Springs and shocks would you guys recommend for street use? I know alot of people use their ae86's for drift or track use, but I am intending to use it more for the street. I have heard people recommend using 6kg springs up front and about 4kg at the rear which seems like a good balance between comfort and performance, IIRC stock springs are about 2.5kg/mm?? Im more really after the lowered look but not having it be too soft for some track days. Im not sure on the shocks yet though. I was hoping to not run coil overs, If someone could possibly give me some recommendations I would really appreciate it.

    Cheers, David

    Street what?

I would recommend 8/6 for street sliding.

Just normal street driving, don't plan to be sliding on the street not much anyways. I still think that might be too hard, as I think the springs on the rears now are probably 8kg but not really sure and 6 might still be too hard.

6/4.5 or something along those lines would be the best recommended spring rates for street and spirited hill driving, 8/6 are harsh especially on our roads, but then again i know some people who wouldnt go softer than 8/6, so i guess its up to personal preference. Also get some decent short strokes, rca, panhard rod and tires and your set

i have 8kg on the front of my car, i think mine is pretty harsh because my shocks are stiffer than they should be.

but i woudlnt recommend 8kg for street, especially if you drive everyday.

i dont drive much (woot public transport) so its ok, but if i drove everyday id be getting some 6 front (With adjustable shocks so as to fine tune the harshness) and 4kg in the back.

Just curious, those who run the higher rate springs 6+ kg/mm

Have you driven anything softer - but not factory? If so, what were your reasons for going higher rates.

Curious to see if placebo is a big factor in 'awesomeness'.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I think its relevant-ish?

7 and 5 or 6 and 4.5 depends on how much driving is to be done. 7 and 5 is fine just adjust to it.
if anything softer springs and harder shocks.
but in saying that 6 and 4.5 is generally pretty good for fun..

dont get anything but short stroke adjustable shockies, weld centre and win

you might want some lock so throw in some p/s arms too.
especially in the wet, can never have enough lock in the wet.
but it pisses me off when people assume your hooning cos your car is loud, has bald tires, a roll cage, fresh bake and dinted bumpers!!
Or driving in a wolf pack.

8kg fronts with KYB AGX Sw20 shocks set on 2 is a good street setup

5kg rears trd blues on about 2 to 3 is good for street

i run 250lb front and 190lb rear (about 4.5 and 3.2 in kgs). Your mileage may vary, 5/4 or 6/4 are not unreasonable depending on your roads. Going too low will be detrimental to your handling. 8/6 stupid for the road and even some of our lovely smooth (NOT) tracks.
