    Default Toyota Corolla CS AE71 - The Auto 4ac to 4age story. (Budget included)

    Owner: Leo
    Location: Melbourne
    Budget: $1000
    Goal/Purpose: Stocky looking trackable Fun car

    Base:
    Toyota Corolla CS
    1983 AE71 4AC 3spd Auto
    SkyBlue, Dark blue interior
    0 Options Factory

    Previous Owner: Some lady in frankston



    Price: $700 (Starting bid $500) on ebay
    RWC: aprox $900 (includes afew ae86 bits)
    Transmision rear seal ($15 + $100 UltraTune labour install)
    Handbrake boot ($15)
    Rear brake hose ($30)
    Rust in rear qtr ($80 in quicksteel, paint/primer and sanding paper)
    LH indicator ($30)
    Stove pipe ($20)
    Rear shocks ($60)
    Rear shoes and cylinders -($70)
    Tie rods ($30)
    Wheel alignment ($30)
    Front brake hose (replaced whole front struts with ae86 items and jdm brakes)
    *this just made it easy for later when i converted to ae86 coilovers
    *they also had new near brake hoses and wheel bearings
    *did have some good adm disks and pads but might as well run in the new vented disks and pads
    *would have cost $60 to replace the hoses and saved around $400 in ae86 crap
    Also replaced engine oil (20w50) and air/fuel/oil filters ($60+ done before rwc check)
    RWC Check completed by UltraTune ($90)

    Comments:
    Very minor rust (or previous rust repair)
    driver side door cosmetic damage
    Ugly standard slanty front
    some paint peeling on the roof and bonnet garnish thing
    interior Ok, pervious owner was smoker
    baby stains in the rear seats
    rips in carpet
    otherwise clean
    4ac was in very good condition
    auto was also very smooth, had redline oil.
    didn't have log books

    Modifications:
    Body:
    Installed both side mirrors with internal adjusting from CSX model ($20ea from pickapart)
    rolled rear guards with guard roller (roller was $200 new from nissansilvia.com)
    Repaired rustrepair cracks from rolling rear guards with quick steel ($15 a pack of quick steel, sanding paper, paint, etc.. aprox $80 intotal)



    rust also repaired around the fuel filler
    replacement chrome arch trim ($20 for 5meters at supercheap)
    Both guard indicators replaced with new items ($30ea new from repco/SSS Auto)
    otherwise body in pretty good condition (except for recent rearender)

    indicator and brake lights replaced ($20)
    some paint peeling on the roof and bonnet garnish thing

    Mudflaps (some aftermarket brand, $10 pickapart)
    Front Seats replaced with stock blue ADM ae86 items (traded for 4a crossmember)
    Front guard plastic removed.
    Guard wiring covered in Slit Corrugated Loom Tubing ($12 for 3.3m AutoOne)
    Recent enginebay fire caused by oil pressure copper line split and leaked onto extractors
    - Replaced with rubber EFI tubing but doesn't give a good reading. will need to get a more flexable copper or something

    Suspension:
    Front AE86 LCA, steering arms, hubs, struts ($100)
    RDA Vented disks, Ferodo Zero pads and JDM 2022 calipers ($140autoone, $40supercheap,$220)
    brake fluid ($10 for 500ml, )
    Tokico HTS front shocks ($200)
    Pedders springs ($20)
    KYB Celica GT4 ST184 front shock ($220pair)
    Random Pedders springs ($100)
    T3 gland nut for ae86 shock to suit GT4/MR2 shock($60)
    Ebay spec Strut bar ($100)
    New Whiteline RCA ($220 autobarn)
    New Cusco Camber tops ($350)
    AE71 steering boots and tie rods ($30, $30 repco)
    Anti brake noise thing ($12)

    Standard Auto 4.1 borgy diff with new brakes shoes and cylinders ($30,$30bersons)
    Standard Man 3.9 borgy diff ($55 locked by ADM)
    random pedders spring in the rear ($20)
    TRD 8way adj short stroke AE86 rear shocks ($250)
    Tokico HTS rear shocks ($200)
    TRD AE86 6KG rear spring ($100, sits too low imo)
    Superpro swaybar front and rear bushings ($80?)
    Strut with coilover kit welded on and 8kg springs ($300)
    Whiteline ae86 adjustable panhardrod ($100)


    *Easy Bolt in job, had to do wheel alignment after

    Wheels:
    4x 14x6 0ET alloy wheels ($300)
    4x new tyres (195/60r14, spares)
    5x (paid $120 off ebay, advertiested as ma60, seller was toyrolla)
    Needs a polish and what not, but cbf atm. still has ebay written on them.

    2x Bridgestone Ggrid 185/60r14 tyres
    2x Toyo GUWN Trampio 195/60r14 tyres
    1x Bridgestone Ggrid 185/55r14 tyres (Spare)
    Paid $300 (NorthEnd Tyres) for the tyres (60-70% all around) with wheel balance etc...
    Also $24 for a bag filled with toyota wheel studs, aprox 40 from pick a part

    Interior:
    CSX Dash with tacho and digital clock ($45 pickapart)
    Old school sas Steering wheel and bosskit ($30 pickapart, $30 supercheap)
    oil pressure and water temp gauge ($55, $30 supercheap)
    some mp3/usb/cdrw player (came from previous ke70)
    KE70 Lightblue manual console ($10 pickapart)

    Rear Louvre ($25 pickapart)

    Clutch and Brake pedal rubber replaced ($5 pickapart)
    WRX Front seat ($300)


    Engine:
    Tvis 7rib bigport (km's on engine unknown, was running in one of my prev ae86's)
    Cut and shut fwd manifold (has cracked)
    fwd water system modded to rwd
    TRD Headgasket
    4A rwd mounts and gbox stays
    4-2-1 extractors over diff setup to Remus Muffler
    AE71 T50 + mounts and stuff
    AE71 Pedal Box & clutch lines
    AE71 Loom modded with 4age loom
    ($1800, sold ae71 gbox, pedal box and loom for $300 afew years back... Doh!)

    JDM RWD 4AGE Intake manifold ($200)
    New rear main oil seal ($10 repco)
    New front main oil seal ($7 autoone)
    New 4AGE timing belt ($55 repco)
    Electric 13" thermo fan ($45 supercheap)

    Stock Oil cooler setup including sumb, oilfilter adaptor and aftermarket cooler($50)

    VL fuel pump ($30 Thomastown auto wrecker)
    New Ryco Z200 efi fuel filter ($15 supercheap)
    New Ryco 4A oil filter ($10 supercheap)
    New Valvoline 10/40 engine oil ($30 4/5lt supercheap)
    New Concovered Pod filter with 3" ($40 Autobarn)
    New Reducer adapator 2.25" to 3" ($10 supercheap)
    Sound emission box with bend from mx83 cressida ($20 pick a part)
    Alloy Metal trim ($15 from bunnings)
    ** From T/B to reducer adpator to emission box to pod filter
    ** Alloy plate used to hold pod filter in place for legal reasons
    ** Alloy Acc cable mounting on the intake, wasnt lining up for some reason
    ** Alloy plate used to hold fuel injector hose inplace, not required but made it look important

    New Century battery NS40ZLS ($115 supercheap)
    NEw Oil catch can ($55 Autobarn)
    8mm Bosch Igniton leads ($6ea supercheap)
    PN: B40CRI (Coil/bizzy), B35RI(1), B45RI(2/3), B58RI(4)
    GTX3 15/40w ($23 onsale @ supercheap)

    AE82 Complete enginebay loom $200 (with coil, map and injectors)
    AE82 ECU (6 cans of Johnny and coke)
    Engine loom done by Sprinter86 (Nath, $120 for the basic loom, including alt)
    *Supplied Loom and plugs from ae82 twinkcam, Nath converted the loom to go into the ae71 (or ae86)
    *Very good work, alt wire was put into the engine loom so the 4ac alt loom from the body was removed
    Gearbox:
    AE71 Pedal box($200)
    AE86 hydraulic lines, cmc and slave ($50)
    New Hydraulic slave $45 from repco
    New brake fluid ($10 for 500ml, , yes another bottle if not more)
    T50 from AE86 including bellhousing and shifter ($200)
    AE71 gearbox mount ($20)
    New 4age 200mm valeo clutch 20% ($120 )
    AE71 manual tailshaft ($20)
    New Valvoline 75/90 ($10per liter, requires 1.8l for t50)
    New Drift Metal Gearknob ($40, biggest waste of money? yes. Autobarn)
    *New holes had to be drilled into the firewall for the cmc
    *The shifter hole had to be widened to allow the manual shifter to shift into 1/3/5 gears

    Give or take $200-300 on extra bits and pieces like crimps, wires, hoses, bolts and so on.
    Majority of the work was completed by me, Loom being worked on by Sprinter86, wheel alignment by TyreExperts (standard alignment) or TyrePower (modded suspension alignment)

    Plans:
    T18 Series2 T-Series Diff with swaybar brackets and tailshaft ($250)
    Zenki TRD 2way LSD ($400)
    AE86 S Series Diff ($100)
    AE86 Tailshaft ($50)
    Limited slip locker from Tayell Automotive ($350, installed into open center)
    New bearing kit ($60)
    New brake shoes and wheel cylinders kit ($30,$30)

    Over Budget: Yes...
    so spent $6500+ in total so far, this shit just adds up haha...
    Have change some items over now marked in grey.

    Items sold:
    Stock 4AC and Auto $40 to Toyrolla in epping
    Stock 5x 13" wheels n tyre $50 to 86dc member
    MA61's 5x wheels n tyre $400

    Engineers:
    NA, will cost $450 for carby to efi, or $800 for the whole car.

    Disclaimer: Most prices are approximate and where purchased during the nov/dec 08.
    Items could be worth more or less depending on the condition, etc...
    Most items with out "New" are obviously second hand items

    Paid $35 for a replacement bumper
    had to also replace one of the muffler rubber mounts and driver seat (now with front ae86 seats)

    The car drives very well, still hard to slide in the dry but turns into a v8 in the wet

    Nice mate... So u used a tacho instrument cluster out of a CSX FWD carolla and it went into the KE70 no probs?
