Aha... so it's a "wax pellet" meaning in fact a fandangled spring and so-on. It makes better sense, and sorry for relaying wrong info.

i think the wax pallet might be sealed because as far as i know they cannot be replaced if malfunctioning. it makes perfect sense to run one but next to no one seems to do it. i mean it comes all connected when pulling the motor out of another car. it could be worse however, my car came with a stupid custom plenum (basically standard, with all the sensor holes welded up and a few barbed hose fittings, and no intake air temp sensor bung) now thats all fixed and cold start connected its a god send having the car idle stably first turn of the key.
