    Why do FF & MR not have spigot bearings and FR have/need them?

    What do they do?

    I understand they are cheap but what would happen if i didn't use one?

    I've put a FF 4age in my KE and I'm just about ready to start the engine and drive the car, whats the go with Spigot bearings.

    the spigot bearing (or bush in some cases, not sure about 4age) supports the input shaft of the gearbox.. you'll have ALL SORTS of drama's if you don't use one...

    u may ruin your clutch/pressure plate bolts.. you may ruin your gearbox... i'm not exactly sure what happens, i just know its not so grand.

    pull your box out, flywheel off and whack one in man.. its a necessity.

    supports the tip of the input shaft on a RWD box, its best you use one

    FF and MR boxes, i assume have a larger diameter tip o nthe input shaft and therefore do not need it??

    as a side note Toyota use a ball bearing spigot bearing in 4AC where commodore V6's (up to VX is all i know) still use the old school bronzed bush bearing.

    looks like i should get on then ay, part number is 6001, is that from toyota cat.

    most transaxles(fwd boxes) dont hav a spigot, thats why they dont use one,

    not using one a rwd, well cause the input shaft bearing, the very first bearing in the box, to die, simple as that, dont use one ull be sorry

    Just got one, $7.90 at REPCO.

    I'll be puting it in this week.

    on ya mate, would be a shame to be down a gearbox over some measly 8$ part.

    the trick is to go to a normal bearing place and ask for a 6001, you see its a generic number not a toyota specific number its about $4 I think, just make sure it aint chinese
