supply and demand
can someone explain the reasoning behind the B/S takumi tax... sure initial D is cool and increase the popularity but they arent worth wat ppl are asking... rego'd stock auto ke70 $2500 WTF
supply and demand
well what can i say, yes its bullshit but with high demand comes high price. when i bought my 1st sprinter nobody knew about them or drifting or inital d for that matter, everything was cheap. then drifting and inital d came out and suddenly everyone wanted a sprinter pushing the price up and up, then when people couldnt get a sprinter cheap anymore they went for the next best thing, ke70/ae70's ect and in turn the price for these will go up as demand for them increases

The best way to lower prices is DONT PAY BIG BUCKS, because once some fuckbrain gets $6k for a stock AE86, everyone else will be wanting to get that much too.
This is Takumi Tax
Nope, the REAL takumi tax is due to the inflated price of AE86's in japan. i dont think anyone has ever purchased a ke70 from a japanese auction. and takumi never drove one. . . .
The reason sprinters cost so much in japan is because the japs want them more than us, and the love they have for the last rwd corolla. Takumi just made it a bit worse.
All the sprinters we get for customers are 8-12k, quite a bit considering you can buy an aristo for less!
PS: ive seeen plenty of ke70's for $1500 and less, just keep looking champ.
well it has to do with demand and supply.
the 86 is a rather old car which ceased production 20 years ago. this means that the amount of 86s left will only decrease, and that availability will be more limited in future years, thus people will raise prices. ever since initial D became popular outside of japan, many people have sought AE86s more actively than before. this exponential increase in demand added to the constant decrease of supply results in the fabled but true "Takumi tax".
if you want to escape the effects of it, come to puerto rico(where only 5% of the hachi driving community actually knows they are driving an ae86), or the states. NEVER BUY ONLINE. people online fish for ricers and initial d freaks, and therefor will always have bloated prices.
:2thumbs:
Its not exactly a new phenomenon- have a look at old Datsuns, old Holdens (ie Eh, Ek, Ej), and numerous other older cars which a segment of the market values highly, for whatever reason. Supply and demand, pure and simple.
if you want to escape the tax drive something else! theres plenty of other 80's nissan, mazda and toyota FR's around that can be made to handle and drift just as well if not even better, just make the move and you will be rewarded!
just pick something and go with it! theres a few MX73's going for cheep as chips! MX83's even.... and with a bit of time and money you can pop a 1jz in and be set for power celica's, R31's, S12's (altho it takes alot of work to drift one of these)
a classic example of supply and demand, would have to be the XY GT Falcons.
go back about 10-15 years, you could pick one up for around $10 000, and now they are selling for around $200 000 far a genuine car with standard motor and everything.
this could potentially happen to ae86's imo, maybe even the ke70's in the future when we are driving around in space ships or hover cars.
