question what cams have you dealt with before that run vvt??
have you found a difference between torque readings good adjustable cams gears and the standard vvt gear??

well first hand experinece with that exact combo I mentioned. I hear 270 or 272 is the max that can be run with a resonable amount of lift or 280 with 8mm of lift but this is second hand info and I cant confirm it. In theory more could be run if deeper flycuts where put in the intake side of the pistons but the stock pistons dont have a heap of meat on them to start with and after all that the valves might still open way too early with long duraton cams to be of benafit, ah I dont know. I do have this though:

standard cams with and without vvt working the way its meant to:

ignore the peak power figure it means little. This is why I insist people use VVT unless its a race like engine because they sacrafice a lot by ditching it.

hey also I forgot to ask why do people suggest aftermarket pistons? I only see power being lost no gained by the aftermarket offerings I have seen unless your talking about the reason I state above or a loss in weight.

Frak: got a weight on that Crower item?

Just the other day I dynoed an AE82 with a ST in it, did the old connect/disconnect vvt, as per Sam's graph, really really loses out below peak power.

I have checked out a few Japanese tuning mags and found quite a few 20v's running staggered 264 VVT intake and 272 exhaust. Can't confirm lift at this present moment though.Toda Cams. My friends 272 toda intake cam has the oil through hole for VVT, though VVT not running on his car.
Having a look at the Tec-Arts website, they offer a balanced and Tec-arts modified Blacktop 20v crank.
Knife edged on the conrod side, and balanced.

sam whats with the drop at about 7,200 with vvti on its a fair drop, did you guys discover the problem of teh issue.

as you said with the aftermarket pistons ive done direct dyno runs with forgies and without in my 4agte and my sr20 both had conciderable drops of peak kw and torque so yeah the stock pistons are staying in this build!!!!

Sam: with your graph I don't see the two with and without VVT graphs crossing over. One is higher than the other for the whole rev range. So how would VVT be of any benifit?
