I suggest spool to people because I have some very good reports as to the tollerances at which they have been checked at, the price and the weight of them. A stock silvertop rod is either 505 ot 532 grams depending on the model, blacktop at around 485 and spool at 459 grams

Head gaskets! We were loaned a head (became two) from a guy who raced Datsun 1600s at the time we were rallying them, but even with his input we couldn't stop them blowing. Must have been 11.5 or more CR.
We talked about ringing the block but never did it....
They meant notching the block and eyebrowing the pistons at the time for valve clearances.
thats very odd, what gaskets where you using at the time? the blocks and heads where faced obviously yes?

Just some additional input here, I've been on AE111 rods and crank, has been revving to 9500 safely so far. Not sure what's going to happen once I replace my pulley/harmonic balancer with light weight items, in it's present state, it is very reliable, maybe not so much after the pulley replacements.
