when u say earth that the one from the head unit? cos im using the one that was there before that went to the metal frame that the console holding the head unit sits into. seemed to work before that
is there some fuse for the head unit else where in the wires?
head unit or brake lights.
maybe the share a common earth that you have disturbed, id be pulling the console out and checking all the wires.
the tail light one sounds like the earth is loose in the rear and its contacting when you go over a bump and coming loose again

check the postition of the brake peddle switch itself, what you can do is get someone behind your car or have your car in a darker garage against the wall so you can see your lights then gently push the peddle down with your hand, if it goes on really early it might be too close to engagment originally. I dont even know if there is an ajustment on these things though
