Default Ae86 rear shocks - what is every one using

Hi , I have a ADM AE86 (4AGU ) , WITH LOWERED 6 KG REAR COILS. Just bought it . THE Rear KYB adjustables are shot . It has CUSCO 8KG front coil overs . so I am after a shck that will give me rear grip as I am going to hill climb it.

    Regards Bob

Might want to lower your spring rates a little if you want to hit the hills.
kyb's again or trd blues are the standard i guess.
the kybs will perform better with a lower spring rate too.

trd/kyb shocks and 4kg springs would be ideal.

    i dont get it.

trd and or kyb right? but lower the spring rate? The shocks are totally differnt, incredibly differnt and have a MASSIVE difference to the handling of the rear end.

I have run both chocks in the same coilover sstem with the same spring. The kyb on level 8 was still soft enough to bottom out. The trd on 2 is still harder than the kyb. The kyb at its hardest allowed for heaps more body roll and suspension comression than the trd. The trd's are VERY stiff. This is NOT a result of the springs!!!!!

I rate the feeling of my trd's howvere for a grip orientated car, bilsteins would be my first choice, see ajpa, or kyb The trd's can be very good, but i recon they are too stiff for a ruff track. Super smooth no probs, but anything with a gnarly bumps or shit surface...

one of the fastest hillclimb 86 in britain runs standard kyb coilover set from t3 with a 6kg spring.
RIP Carly - a smile to light the world.

You may have to adjust a shock up tighter as it slowly wears out, so it could be hard to compare 2 second hand models.

I have Koni Sport (yellow) to suit Startlet/Paseo. Only because there were cheap.
