Install a relay (one for low/high beams each) so your globes are getting the full 12-14v. Old wiring tends to get resistance with age, so your globes don't get the full voltage.

If you are going to get a drop-in HID kit, make sure your housings are the type with a little cap over the front of the globe, otherwise you'll have massive amounts of glare to oncoming traffic and it'll be like you have your beams on to them, so they can't really judge your distance. Normal H4 globes have the front coated so light doesn't come out and it all hits the relflector, HID globes don't, which is why you need the housing with a cap, or projectors.

Alighning them would be the first step.

    Then better globes

    Then re-running the wiring.

Then switching to HID / switching to Kouki lights.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

I am thinking of just getting some xenon bulbs and whacking them in?
In the range of about 4000-5000K so not too blue (keep the popo away). Just have to make sure they don't heat up too much.
My old mans car did this and results were impressive aswell as being comparitively cheap to HID.

are late model ae82 reflectors same as late model ae86 ones ??

The reflector is sort of part of the whole headlight body, and it does not bolt into AE86, so would not work.

Those 4000+k halogen globes don't actually put out more light, they just appear to because of the color. The blue coating on the globe itself actually filters out some of the usable light so output is less.

For standard H4 55/60w halogen globes, the best out there are the Philips Xtreme +80 or Osram Nightbreaker. I have the Philips ones and they are almost as bright as a generic 100w globe, without having to redo the wiring for added current draw. These globes don't really have the blue look if that's what you're after, but for the price, nothing really comes close for usable output.

Check out some reviews online, that's pretty much what they all say.

And make sure your lights are properly aimed too, if there is a pool of light right in front of the car, aim them up until you can light up a car in front's licence plate about 20-30m away on low beam. That way, the main beam will be where it should be.
