This might be a stupid question or I just haven't looked hard enough, but I can't seem to be able to find anyone who makes new camshaft bearing caps. Toyota don't make them anymore, and when they did you couldn't buy them separately from the head. ACL don't make them, and I can't seem to find anyone else. Maybe you don't need to replace them but am I right in saying that these wear faster then the head as more force is applied to these when the valve springs are compressed?

Does anyone know where I can acquire a set, if at all?

    Cheers Dan

you need to get 2nd hand set and get a machine shop to line bore them in ya head.

The camshaft bearing caps on the head are generaly not replaced, and the wear they get is not as much or as important as crankshaft bearings. They are stamped and numbered and are considered a part of the head. They are not to be swaped from one head to another as they are machined in place on that specific head. A head with missing camshaft bearing caps is almost worthless.

If they are significantly worn, the head and matching bearing caps has to be taked to a machine shop. The bearings have to be 'closed up' and machined in place on the head. This is not easy to do. It would be easier just to get another 4A-GE head.

If you are set on using the head you have, and 'need' a new cap, then it's not too hard just to make it from a lump of aluminium. But it has to be machined in place on the head, and then numbered.

Yeh, thats what I thought. I was just hoping that maybe someone made new ones.

af300e: if you don't already know the camshaft bearings on a 4AGE are not like the big ends or mains. They don't use snap in bearings. They just run on the alloy of the head and cap.

youd have to use a new head, there is a slim possibility you could have the cam bearing surfaces bored out and fit bearings, but it would be cheaper just to get a new head.

what is wrong with the one you have?

if youve just lost/damaged one youll get away with just swapping one from another engine.

if they are all excessively worn, damaged, then yes, head > bin.

if you want one i have heaps spare.

I remember I actually had to replace one of these on a 4d56 mitsu diesel once and I managed to find used ones, but they were tunnel bored slightly differently and caused the cam to bind when torqued down. I was able to mill the offending cap out, but it's possible that a used one could have excessive clearance in which case you'd be at square one.
Are you able to measure the clearance?
