Nearly Finished my Kouki Rear end Swap

When I forgot that my Backing Plate and Dust Shield has this huge bump of rust popping out. I've asked a few friends what they think they say to cut out the rust and cut off the dust shield and she'll be sweet.

But I've read that you need a Dust shield to be road legal.

Just wondering what my options are.

    Cheers

I have put mine back on in prep for engineering. I believe they are required but can't state this as fact.

Remember the brake line retainers are a part of the backing plate, which may well be part of the explanation.

Can you cut out the rusted section and weld a patch in, wouldn't need to be perfect or anything.

Note that Ford Falcons do not have a dust shield on the front disks. Just the bare rotors. Is it needed? Falcons always have the bare minimum of things a car can have.
