Does anyone know of a bolt on conversion to upgrade the front brakes on a TA23?
Friend wants to use 10 or 11 inch discs and probably 4 pot calipers.

    Your help is appreciated.

    Options:
    1. Use XT130 corona struts, HiLux 4WD calipers, Peugeot disks, Corona hubs. Heaps writtin about this on Toymods. I have done it. Works well. 10" disks, 20mm thick.

    2. Use AE86 struts with JDM vented disks and calipers. Smallish disks, 18mm thick.

    3. Use AE86 struts with Mazda FC calipers, alloy adapter brackets (AJPS), Civic disks. 10.5", 21mm thick.

    4. Use TA22/23 struts with AE86 brakes. I have a pair of AE86 brackets with a hole drilled for TA22 if you like.

    5. Use TA22/23 struts with 4spot calipers, Civic or similar disks, and custom brackets.

    6. RA23 or RA40 front brakes and struts. Not vented, so hardly worth it.

    7. Tarago/Camry/whatever front brake calipers, make your own bracket. I have early Tarago brakes to sell you.

There is another one that has been documented on toymods which I have been doing for my ta22.

xt130 struts and hubs, ra60 discs(Slotted and vented), mx62 cressida calipers (Large single piston, but a large pad area).

What motor is going into his car? Are 4 spots required. Master cylinder will need an upgrade...

Johnny, which civic? I checked the DBA site but all civic rotors seem to run too much offset to sit on the inside of an xt130 hub/strut and too little offset to be fitted over the hub. The 258mm RA60 is perfect, with hat face to outside friction surface offest of around 6mm (fits to back of hub).

Shelldrake, regarding 4 pots, they are really not required. The increase in braking force generated is mostly a result of the larger diameter disc (more leverage on the hub) and increased pad surface (more friction). A good sized sliding caliper is fine.

If anyone would like proof of this, the current bmw M5 (373kw, 1755kg) and M3 (309kw, 1655kg), both run front sliding calipers. They generate big braking power by use of huge discs, 374mm and 360mm respectively.

For a 1000kg, 120kw car, 260mm discs with a decent sized sliding caliper are very good. Want more braking power? Use peugeot discs at 283mm.

Motor is a 13b bridgeport but it also has 17" wheels up front and 18" in rear so original brakes not only are inadequate but look pretty silly too.

    Thanks for the suggestions everybody!!
