HPI magazine budget drifter

yesturday i got the current issue of HPI magazine in the mail. upon reading it i discovered that they use an ae86 with 10k worth of goods including the purchase of the car as an example of a "budget" drifter. i left the mag at work so i can't remember exactly off the top of my head what was used. but i would like to see other people views, opinions, outcries etc on the article.

ill go into a bit more detail of what was installed in the car in a sec. my view/opinions on the article and the car itself is that it was a ludicrous and rediculous way to spend $10000, sure the car will be strong but there were unnecessary installations of parts for a simple underpowered ae86. other people might think differently to my opinion.

-blacktop 20v $1800
-w58 conversion (supposedly they redrilled a couple of holes in the t50 bellhousing and bolted it on)
-hilux diff
-2 way lsd
-aftermarket 2nd hand coilovers

w58? were not running a 4agz/te here, hilux diff? were not running a 4agz/te here. so whats the go

also to finish, how would you change the setup? would you be happy to keep it that way would you do mega budget sr20?

youll be doing well to find an ae86 for $3000 these days unless you stumble upon someone who doesnt kno what it is/what it is worth.

I also wonder about why a w58 and a hilux diff in a non forced inductioned or even bigger capacity engine.

20v is a good move, as from stock it pushes a lot better than a stock 16v, not requiring any further power upgrades for awhile.

Personally this is what I would do with a $3000 AE86. Does this have a 4AGE to start with or 4AC? I'll go with fairly reasonable prices.

$3000 - AE86 (16v?)
$1200 - Reputable branded coilovers
$450 - Reputable branded rear shocks (TRD, Tokico?)
$1400 - T-series diff with 2 way LSD
$300 - Adjustable castor rods
$150 - Negative RCA's
$150 - Rear springs
$350 - Lightened flywheel
$250 - Straight-through exhaust from a exhaust shop
$400 - 4-1 extractors
$150 - Strut brace
$220 - UR crossmember to chassis brace
$250 - UR Rear tower brace
$220 - UR Fender brace
$650 - Full 7-point cage (2nd hand)
$60 - Dry ice for removal of sound deadening
$1000 - 14x7 decent set of Japanese rims

That's a total of $10200

Probably how I'd spend $10000 on a AE86 that likes to see a lot of drifting, yet still be fun and reliable.

If you were smarter, you'd try and find a ke70 which gives you probably $2000 or more extra to spend. Then again, the ke70 probably doesn't have a 4AGE.

Actually, for $10000, import one from Japan that has shit loads of goodies already on it, with decent cosmetics.
