AE86 LSD questions, what's that in there?

Hey Guys,

Just got a second hand limited for my AE86, looks pretty beaten up! Question is, what is the gold/bronze metal across the top of the final pinion gear. These pics are really poor as my cameras in repairs this week, the mobile had to suffice. Better pictures coming, but will have to wait a week. Interested in your comments.

Would appreciate if anyone can identify the likely make of diff, is this a Toyota factory diff or other. Pls let me know what and where to look. Cheers JJJJ

From the looks of it, from the first picture, it is a TRD 4 pinion LSD.

The other photos don't show any part of the LSD.

looks like a gold paint texta mark?.. mayb somone was lining something up when it was being put together?? doesnt look like something that needs to be worried about

update, got it in and it's running like a charm. Thanks for those that have posted replys. I did front pinion bearing but did not break down the LSD plates (coz I don't know how to reset it up), anyway, all is working fine.

If anyone can add to the likelihood that it's a Toyota, let me know what identifying marks it could have.

I have noticed a very similar bronze stripe, but at a different angle on the standard diff i removed. This one is heading for the welding bench, hear comes a cherry red welding expedition, my favourite!!!
