I have never come across an issue with them personally, i have had the standard rb30 ones up over 300hp atw, but i have heard stories of them falling apart under stress.
whats the price difference between toda and acl?
Rhys
I am building up my N/A engine and I really can't see the point in spending $800 on toda hi-comp pistons, instead I have had a look around and found the ACL pistons. Has anyone used them in the past. I have sunk a bit of money into the head already, and had my old pistons reconditioned, but I still feel if I get some new pistons I would feel alot more comfortable. Are there any bad reports or risks with the ACL pistons because I am leaning towards them at the moment.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure they are just standard compression compared to the todas which are forged hi compression pistons
for which engine? the 16v small port ones are kinda dodgey.. theyre lower CR than stock.
wisecos are good and a little cheaper than toda.

ACL forged pistons are Wiseco and Mahle, both good brands.
They don't have a high comp 4A forged piston, at least that I'm aware of.

their cheap range of pistons seem to have a bit of a nasty reputation following them for being lousy quality. I was talking to a sales rep and he said the pistons are as Slydar says in that they usually half a point lower to compensate for the engine copping a head or block skim and still retaining the same compression. The smallport pistons are meant to be around the 10:1 mark.

hey sam, from memory 10.3 to one.
for stock yes, for ACL no
their rated compresion of their smallport pistons is meant to be around 10:1 because it has no dome on it like stock. For other pistons they purposefully run a 0.3mm smaller compression height to let people skim the block the same amount and have the same piston to head clearence. Well this is what the rep said anyway.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (lo_rolla @ Jun 22 2008, 07:38 PM) </div>ACL mightnt sell them but thats only because there isnt a big enough market here for them to bother with putting 10% on them and calling them their own. wiseco is by far the most common high comp piston used in 4ages.

do venolia do a high comp piston for 4A's, i have used them in many engines, especially 4G's very tough piston for a reasonable price.
$800 isn't much for a set of pistons, when your payin $1400 for a set of Mahle race pistons thats not cheap, but fuck they're tough, seen them handle nearly 60 full power passes, at 600kw atw and barely scuff the skirt.
Cheers
