not your garage? damn.
so a JD2 plus the 2 dies you need is around $1000US plus shipping. Is this similar to the deal you got beally?
yeah me and my bro went halvies, cause i wanted to make my cage, and he wanted to make a buggy to race aus safari,
we got a setup, was around 3500 ish, we have 4 dies, and we ordered dimple dies at the same time, so it would have been around 2000 ish for the bender and 2 dies, and we just made a little stand for it to bolt to the floor, works pretty darn well, oh yeah we also bought a fish mouthing tool, which comes in handy ALOT.

yeah thats prety much the same setup i got beally. what wlder are you using? mig tig??. ive never had to purge the inside with mig, but its necessary with tig.
plus i find the better you prep the surface the better the weld.
"Racing is life. Everything else that happens before or after is just waiting." ~Steve McQueen [Le Mans -1970]
half mig half tig, use tig on the single joins, use mig on the floor plates and stuff where good penetration is handy, takes a bit of thought, with the fish mouthing tool you can get stuff to fit so snug so the tig works awesome, but with the mig you almost want a 1mm gap.
better surface definitely helps, almost necessary, sometimes when you are doing the last weld sealing something up, the air on the inside heats up and tries to spit out through what your welding,
i still have to mount my seats before i do my cross bars so they are in a good spot,
