    My fuel pump relay is cactus, and seeing as its a gay toyota thing that i can only get from toyota I'm thinking of just not using it.

    Its been suggested to me to just run the positive feed straight to it, and at the same time have an in cabin switch for it
    Whats stopping me from doing this, as it sounds like a good idea.

    The pump is a vl pump so nothing too serious.

    i've used a seperate switch in the past for a fuel pump.

    The only thing i did differently was run the power (high amp) cable to a 5 buck relay, then to the pump,

    and have a trigger line to the switch in the cabin.

    I wouldn't run 40amp wire and switch into the dash.

    if not using the ecu trigger line, make sure your prime (3 seconds) before you start!

    i had that exact setup a few weeks ago, but then changed back to the relay because if you fuckup / prang your car, fuel is pissing out everywhere.

    but otherwise, don't use tiny wire, and it shall be fine.

    i see, so the relay actually controls the pump to run when the car is firing?
    I'm a bit of a wiring noob, so finding it a bit hard to grasp.

    But i think thats the main idea of having a switch so i can turn it off if i have a crash...

    So basically, if i don't run a relay i have to wait for it to prime the fuel rail before starting? Ie instead of the relay doing what it should

    yeah don't run a seperate switch, run it from the ecu. (you don't want to be unconscious after having a prang and have fuel goin everywhere do ya)

    there is a pin on the ecu, that will turn on the pump when it needs to be.

    what you can do though...is use this wire to trigger a relay that sends power to the pump VIA a positive cable straight from the battery.

    its essentially the same as what you do when you wire up an amplifier or even driving lights, the power comes directly from the battery, but its switched via the appropriate method (in the amplifier case it turns on with the CD player, and in the driving lights setup the turn on on high beams etc)

    if you woudl like me to draw up a diagram on how to wire it up with a normal automotive relay....i can...but not now...gota go to work...

    I was wondering the same thing a while ago and most people I spoke to said to do it properly
    I'd hook it up to the ECU (pretty sure it's a ground switch) and use relay coz if you are in a stack you really don't want fuel pissing everywhere cause the whole lot could go up
    I've also added in a fuel cut switch for a bit of security

    there was a thread a few months ago with a wiring diagram in it
    I would vote for doing it properly

    I lost my other wiring diagram i made a few months back, but here is a quick one i made up.

    just rip the relay and plug out of another toyota, I used a local 16V relay for my 20v ecu and ground a few plastic locating pins off to make it fit.
