I went to the trouble of measuring the distance between the mounting face of the hub/drum (front and rear) and the inner most edge of the folded over lip on the front and rear arches so I figured I'd share it.

Now it was a rather annoying process to get an accurate measurement, ended up taking about an hour front and back but it'll be very useful to those wanting to calculate the offset of a rim that'd fit under the stock arches (myself included).

Few points to mention, this was measured on an AE71 which is completely stock, no modifications what so ever. I also did it with the suspension under load to give the most accurate measurement.

    My results were:
    72mm on the front
    85mm on the back

Bare in mind also that if you plan on lowering the car you're definitely going to need an adjustable panhard rod to keep the measurement the same on either side of the rear drums.

From this you can calculate that using a 6 inch rim on the back with 0 offset the rim shouldn't at any point of its movement be able to come in contact with the factory guards. Even without springs in the car (ignoring the skew associated with running a stock panhard rod)

Now your rim shouldn't really get close enough to the arch anyway to hit, so you can probably push those values out to about
    90mm on the front
    95mm on the back
And still have the rim face within the outermost part of the arch, it maybe an idea to run tyres with a slight stretch too.

Hope this proves useful to people.

dont spend money on handclean, washingpower soap works wonders and when wetted it heats up heaps.

    also CRC over WD40 anyday.
