Im looking at changing my exhaust from over diff to under but im a little worried about it being to low and scrapping all the time when getting on and off trailer and also when ever i jack up the car the diff coming down onto the exhaust. Has anyone had problems with this???

So i as thinking why not out the side? i havnt seen anyone with a AE/KE/TE that i can think of that has done it. Is there a reason for not doing it or doesnt anyone find a problem with running it under the diff???

Oh i have a TE72 with 2TG what size exhaust can you guys suggest?

    Thanks in advance.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (stouty @ Sep 29 2008, 02:27 PM) </div>Its certainly illegal on an AE71 or KE70. I believe that the exhaust must exit after the rearmost door, or something to that order. But the hatch on an TE72 or AE86 might classify as a door.

Either way its going to attract a lot of unwanted attention from the cops.

But if its just a track car, go for it, cant see any problem with having a side exit.

i had a 3in under the diff. would be ok with really short stroke shocks so the diff doesnt come down onto it, but mine did so was a pain in the arse to put the car on the hoist.

exhaust out the side is usually illegal. ive seen it on sprinters and im not a fan anyway. exhaust must finish past the furthermost opening to the cabin. so on a hatchback it must finish at the rear of the car.

from memory an exhaust must exit a certain distance AFTER the rear-most door of the car.

I've seen a few and will probably be doing side exit on mine, but yeah they are all track cars like this, not legal on the road.

Even those shelby cobra replica's you see with the side exhausts - to be road legal they have to block them up and the real exhaust exits out the back.

that's for commercials. passenger vehicles must have the exhaust outlet PAST the rear bumper.

under diff exhaust on an ae86 is pretty much impossible to make legal (ground clearance is considerably less than the mandated 100mm) and difficult to make practical, even with short stroke suspension.

there's plenty of room to go over the diff, even with a 3" system if you're going for forced induction.

I used to run 2 1/2" all the way from the secondaries, and ran over the diff. no clearance problems, was above leagl height,it made 68kw atw out of a stock, original big port 4AGE with over 200k kms on it,and tested at 86dba. worked pretty well at the time I thought.

Sorry should have metioned its for a track car only

My only concern with going out the side was basically where it will exit on a T-18 will be just infront of the rear tyre so i was a wondering if the shit coming out the exhaust could go onto the rear tyre and yeh make it slippery????????????????????

Well i might go for over diff again then, at the moment the diff is sitting on the exhaust and i have a leak at the gasget on the extractors. I have some OBX stainless steel tuned length 4 into 1 to go on so ill just do a whole new exhaust.

    Cheers for the help guys

If anyone else has anymore info put it up every bit helps.
