Have you had experiance in removing front struts, rear springs, etc.?
Should be fairly straightforward, make sure you get a wheel alignment afterwards. Don't set the heights too low to start off with.
hey, i am about to put on a full set for BC adjustable coilovers on my 1983 ADM(4age) 86.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or stuff not to do
cheers

nah no experience with replacing suspension. i have a few mates that can help me if i get stuck but just wanting a few tips n things to watch out for.
and is it advisable to get some RCA's?
replace bushes while its apart
Seeing as your not experianced, refer to the service manual as the procedure is the same for fitting coilovers.
It is advisable to install RCAs aswell.
Ive looked around and i can find any manuals, i found the 4age and body repair ones. i wont need spring compressors for the rear would i?
No you wont need spring compressors at all.
For the rear when you remove the shocks the diff will droop right down allowing you to remove the springs.
With the front you remove the whole strut and replace it with the coilover unit, then swap your brakes, and hub onto the new unit.
ok i'll go offf memory here,
Removing front struts:
1: Crack wheel nuts( don't fully undo, just slightly undo them to so you can just spin them all off when the car's in the air(21mm)
2:Lifting the car. position jack under front k-frame( what the lower control arms and engine mounts bolt to) DO NOT LIFT OFF THE SUMP!!!! lower car onto jack stands(either position them in the correct place on the sill or onto the chassis rails)
3.Remove wheels
4. Crimp brake lines( guessing you don't have the correct tool use some vice grips, making sure you wrap the brake lines in a rag to avoid damage)
5. Undo brake line, try and use the proper spanners but if not a standard 10mm open ender will suffice, however be sure not to strip the nut. use a flat head to pop the clips out that attach the brake line to the strut
6.Undo the 2 17mm bolts at the base of the strut
7.Undo the 3 nut at the top, 12mm from memory
8. Unbolt brake calipers, 2x 17mm bolts
9. Pop the cap off the stub axle( i use a soft hammer and chisel)
10. Remove split pin, take the bit out behind that too.
11. Undo main wheel bearing nut, for this i just use a big shifter as they shouldn't be too tight.
12. Remove hub assembly
13. Remove caliper brackets, there will be 4x 12mm bolts.
Assemble in reverse order.
one of the most important things( apart from making sure all bolts tightened properly) is tensioning the wheels bearings correctly, for this step i would advise getting someone with experience for this step, but if not available, i will try and explain now.
firstly you want to make sure all the bearings still have a sufficient amount of grease, if they don't, take them to a friend who has experience as i really cbf explaining packing bearings over the net. try youtube though?
when tensioning the bearings spin the hub while doing up the nut, try and keep spinning it while continually doing up the nut, you will feel the nut tighten to the point where it grabs, when that happens take an 1/8th of a turn out and you should( if i explained it correctly) have a correctly torqued wheel bearing, if you're still unsure of this try youtube, i'm sure there'll be a demonstration on there.
i made this very, very basic so hopefully this helps, apologies if i'm not entrely spot on with some things, i'm just going off memory. any further q's feel free to message me
im gonna be helping him, iv done it before, but does anyone know torque settings? thats the only thing we are missing
cheers
