    Default Know your tech rules

I've been doing a bit of reading, both on forums and it seems that alot of guys have there own idea of what rule is what. This is stuff we all need to know backwards if you want to avoid the defect notice , obviously to a point.
But eg, if a cop says your wheels are to big.

    Ok - on your 86 , it came factory with 14 x 5.5 +18 with 185/60/14 rubber
It's not about rim size it's rolling diameter.

So to work that out in mm:

    Rim 14 x 25.4 = 355.6 mm
Tyre profile is that percentage of the tyre width, so:
    Find 60% of 185mm = 111mm
    Multiply that by 2 = 222mm
Then add the rim dia + tyre Profile heigh
    355.6 mm + 222mm = 577.6 mm is your standard rolling dia.

so we can go down to an RD of 562.6mm and up to DR of 592.6mm

    Now for a 15' rim with a 205/50
    15 x 24.5 = 381 mm
    50% of 205 = 102.5mm
    So : 367.5 + 2(102.5) = 586 mm

    16" Rim w/ 225/40

    16 x 25.4 = 406.2
    40% of 225 = 90mm
    SO : 406.2 + 2(90) = 587.2mm

Soon an you go up to a 45 profile on a 16' rim your RD blows out to 608.7mm

So that should give you a rough idea on how big you can legally go.

You have an allowance of + or - 15mm from the largest option given by the manufacturer, in our case it was offered in a 13 and 14' rim.

Here is a few links, I've still gotta find a few that I didn't bookmark so I'll post as I retrieve them.

You can read all about it. And ride height and everything else here:

To be honest I do see the logic in that, you step in their turf you abide by their law. If you plan on driving in QLD you should meet their requirements. Pretty shit though, they should just stick to one standard australia wide..

None of this, or anything for that matter, applies in SA.

    You will get defected regardless.......

    Yeah, should be 25.4.

    Seemed odd that you got a height of 572 for a 205/50R15 when I know a 195/50R15 is 577.
