BTW they all snapped at once. I didnt snap all the bolts individually!
I have never changed a clutch before and today gave it a go for the first time. When i was doing up the pressure plate bolts the whole lot of them snapped bar 2! i tried doing them up evenly but got to the end and they snapped. They were 2nd hand bolts that had been laying around for a while. Do you think it snapped because of the old bolts or because i did something wrong? I was doing them up with a torque wrench to 32 foot pounds. Now ive gotta try get all of the bolts back out of the flywheel.
BTW they all snapped at once. I didnt snap all the bolts individually!
Probably old bolts. And 34 foot pounds is WAY way too much. Standard is like 15 i think? I will check the FSM when i get home, but it sounds wrong.
Also, most 1/2" torque wrenches will be unable to properly torque up the pressure plate bolts to such small degree - so just do them up firmly with a wrench (with some red loctite) - or borrow someones 1/4" torque wrench.
Ok winner. If you could post the proper specs up i would be interested to know. I googled and got that spec from a toymods thread i think.
I just used my 3/8 dr air ratchet at work to tighten them up.
FSM says 14ft-lb.
No biggie though, removing bolts that snapped going in is easy.
DAAAMN i wish i didnt just read information on forums and read it as complete truth. I definately did them up too tight. Ill have to buy some new ones and get the bolts out of the flywheel tommorow night.
Yeah, with forums, make sure you go to 3 or 4 and if two or three forums say the same thing then you can sorta take it as truth.
Always best to look in the manual.
I Just removed the broken bolts from the flywheel. No damage to threads and was cake to get em out! Ill get some more bolts and get back on that horse tommorow! this time ill do 14 ft pounds
I've never used a torque wrench on pressure plate bolts and never had problems. Just done them by hand until they feel "about right" and even. I don't think they are that critical.
