Default Flywheel and pressure plate 4age

I have never changed a clutch before and today gave it a go for the first time. When i was doing up the pressure plate bolts the whole lot of them snapped bar 2! i tried doing them up evenly but got to the end and they snapped. They were 2nd hand bolts that had been laying around for a while. Do you think it snapped because of the old bolts or because i did something wrong? I was doing them up with a torque wrench to 32 foot pounds. Now ive gotta try get all of the bolts back out of the flywheel.

Probably old bolts. And 34 foot pounds is WAY way too much. Standard is like 15 i think? I will check the FSM when i get home, but it sounds wrong.

Also, most 1/2" torque wrenches will be unable to properly torque up the pressure plate bolts to such small degree - so just do them up firmly with a wrench (with some red loctite) - or borrow someones 1/4" torque wrench.

    FSM says 14ft-lb.

No biggie though, removing bolts that snapped going in is easy.

Yeah, with forums, make sure you go to 3 or 4 and if two or three forums say the same thing then you can sorta take it as truth.

Always best to look in the manual.

I've never used a torque wrench on pressure plate bolts and never had problems. Just done them by hand until they feel "about right" and even. I don't think they are that critical.
