ive worked out that im going to use a vl fuel pump( im still not sure whether or not to use a surge tank)
ive got my loom and computer
and ive been told that i can still use my ae71 radiator (do i have to use a thermo fan? )
any advice would be helpful
thanks

I suggest a hyundai radiator instead

standard ae71 radiator is fine. served me well for 3yrs of 4age ownership. pipes are on the correct side too.
please don't use the VL high pressure pump on its own. At the very least fit the low pressure pump inside the tank (easy as, there is a tech article on rollaclub).
and you should really put a surge tank in between the two pumps.
that way the pump is happy, high pressure pumps do not deal well with trying to suck fuel.
and of course 10 ppl are going to chip in and say "ive used a VL pump on its own for years and its been fine"
but if you want a silent fuel system, and you don't want your pump to burn out over time, put a surge tank in or at least the lift pump.

I used a Vl pump without a surge tank and that, and it was bloody loud. Also noticed fuel surge at anything under 1/4 a tank too.
I wouldn't waste your cash on a hyundai radiator either. Thermo fan is recommended for hot days and when you are stationary in traffic etc.
the reason why I suggest the Hyundai radiator upgrade to people is not because of the higher cooling performance but because ae71 rads are often at an age where they are failing and if the hoses need to be changed anyway I figure it's a good time to fit a common and cheap to source radiator. Also if someone is fitting a smallport or 20V they would need to change the pump first before putting a mechanical fan on.

well i got the 4ac out today and cleaned up the gearbox. i reckon im sold on the idea of a surge tank (cant do any harm) and i might stick with the ae71 radiator with a thermo fan and if it starts to get a bit warmer than usual i might go for the hyundai one.
thanks for all the advice
