Default getting stock ae86 tacho to work with coilpacks/aftermarket ecu

like the tittle says im going to attempt this ve got the required resistors but they are 1W instead of 1/4W. does it make a difference or do i have to go change it back?

edit : ok this actually works!! u need to make sure ur original tacho is getting a reading for the rpm signal from ur coil/ecu. just drag the reading wire and connect it to the ignition coil slot on ur cluster. slot 16 in the diagram below.

hought ill add this to ae86 DC as well. might wanna move it to tech articles?

if u wanna read more theres this thread ve got a pivot tacho in the car that goes to 10k rpm, but somehow the needle wouldnt travel as much as the stock tacho. if u got a high revving NA car u gotta see the rpm needle dance around

As long as the power rating is greater than required, it'll be fine electrically. The 1W may be bigger than a 1/4W and might not fit in the required spot.

ok i did the thing in the first post and nothing is happening.

been looking at ae86 manual with 4age

since my sprinter originally had a 4ac, do i have to drag the tacho reading and stick it in slot 16 for the rpm signal?

currently running microtech ltx 8 with bosch coilpacks.

If you're running individual coils, you can join the coil negative signal from all four through diodes and connect this to the factory tacho wire. A wiring diagram for this should be in the tacho tech thread linked above.

Or alternatively you could make build a tacho convertor. This take the tacho output from the Microtech and coverts it to what the dash needs.
