I totally agree, rebuild a 4AGE to standard specs on standard management and work out from there.

Its best you start off with a JDM AE86 RWD motor too. They're more expensive, but you'll win in the end, so much better for the conversion.

I shouldn't set you back more than about $3000ish if you do the work yourself.

yep i was a sucker for this.

had half a 4age in my garage for a year, with "the big build" in mind.

sold it all, bought a complete 4age had it in within 3 months. winnah!

    bingo!

all your money spent might not gain as much as you think (unfortunately). especailly considering that standard ecus are tuned very well. and what your talking about isnt that much different from standard.

my suggestions, start with a decent engine. put in a thin head gasket, replace all the other gaskets, and easily replaceable stuff (water pump, maybe oil pump if its stuffed) all the other seals.

    put it in and drive!

then if your keen, get another 4age cheap for the monster build up. 4kc's suck to much to be spending years building a 4age

ok well this is how i stand at the moment

i have a complete 4AGE short motor, another short motor all in pieces, one block thats been bored 40thou, 2 sets of rods, brand new 40thou pistons & rings to suit, 2 bigport heads, 3 inlets FWD & 1 RWD one, ITBS w/ TPS, 2 complete engine looms, 3 ecus, emanage & 4AGE harness, 2 crankshafts - so i have all the parts 2 make 2 and abit engines

and since the short motor would have to be rebuilt i figured i may aswell use the 40tho bored block, and pistons, and etc...

the only thing i dont have or haven't decided to use is on my orginal post
