Suzuki alto 800 handivan.
Just kidding. R31 are great for ease of setup and they already have a decent wack of power, GH sigma with the 2.6?
Hello all, my sprinter got totalled by an idiot in a range rover on the weekend and i'm wondering what to buy next. It would have to be cheap and relatively easy to find parts for as i'm only on apprentice wages at the moment.
I was thinking an R31, just asking for anyone's previous experiences with them or a similar alternative with pro's and con's?

I had thought of the sigma, but I can't seem to find any for sale at the moment that aren't full of rust.
Similar story with any of the old datsuns I was searching for.
Thanks heaps for the suggestion, i'll go dig around a bit.
E30 6 cylinder > All.
What are parts like for them though? Normal maintenance stuff as well as aftermarket stuff, bmw's have a reputation for getting expensive i'm not sure if it's justified?
i have a few mates with 318i's - One is mechanically incompetent, and got ass raped for almost everything that needed to be done to the car by the mechanics. The other, is a poor uni student with his head switched on that manages to get parts from wreckers fairly cheap and easily. So maybe have a look of what is around in terms of wreckers that stock bmw's, you can always get parts from europe! haha.
Cheers, plohl
Anything mechanical is fine, i'm an apprentice mechanic so no worries about labour/skills etc. Just trying to get a good group of ideas going to choose from at the moment, thanks heaps guys for your inputs.
So many options here.
R31 is good, awesome torque, pretty throwable. S13 front, coilovers, locker or LSD and some nice wheels and you're set. Mine was kind of unreliable, so cheap to fix though.
KE70, so expensive these days but if you can find a mostly rust free stock example and do suspension mods over time and then 4AGE you'll have a weapon.
RT142 or ST141 corona, the next KE70. Dime a dozen, don't have to worry about engine conversions.
RA65 celica, pretty much the same deal as RT142, look hottt.
S13's are getting so cheap these days, NA SR's are pretty reliable and everybody knows how to do an S13 proper.
NA MX5's are getting pretty cheap too. Incredible handling characteristics from the factory, coilovers wheels LSD done. Bitches love them too.
Depending on how much cash you have to throw around you could possibly score an NA R32 for cheap, although cheap is still >5K
My choice would be ST141, can pick them up so cheap, so overlooked to RT142's because people think 22RE is awesome but 2SC isn't that bad an engine, close power to a stock bigport with a falcon weber and exhaust and more reliable. I held mine on valve float every weekend for two years then left it in a paddock to rot for a year, then started it straight up and actually tried to blow the engine to no avail. And this is an engine that has 330K on it and low water and tar for oil.
Simple suspension, 4.11 diff locked, fitting wheels and you're set.
ST141's are pretty good I used to have a 2s one went pretty good.

Need a 6 cylinder for an E30 to be worth it. 320i, 323i, 325i.
Replacement parts are stupidly cheap from and aftermarket stuff is very well supported. Most of it you just have to wait on shipping from the US, or Europe though.
If you try to source parts locally, especially from a BMW Stealership, you will get absolutely raped.
