    Default Intermittent loss of spark

    Hi,

I've got this 92 Laser that I gotta fix, except it doesn't really have a problem, sort of.

The car starts up and runs like a champ until it just dies, used to get 30km out of it before cutting out but it's now cutting out in less than a km of driving. Here's the funny part. The problem is only there for less than a minute. I've got as far as finding a loss of spark but it doesn't give me enough time to find exactly what's at fault since it starts working again before I can set up. So after waiting the less-than-a-minute, it starts up and I can drive it for 50-100 metres before it cuts out again. I can idle it forever and not one unsteady beat. It's a really annoying problem to find to say the least.

First thing I'm planning on doing is replacing the electronic thing that goes where the points would be.

Any other ideas on what to replace without just replacing everything?
Any tips on how to pinpoint problems that exist for less than a minute at a time?

    Thanks.

Yeah, even though I didn't think it was loose wires, I did check that.

Cool I'll go buy some dizzy pick ups. I don't know which one's broken so I guess I'll do both.

    Thanks guys.

sounds like what an ecotec powered commy would do if the CAS was rooted.........in your case, the pickups like people have stated.

    laser disease.

ignition module in the dizzy. replace that and replace the coil. make sure you check cap and rotor. i have found that if you do just one the other shit will not be far behind. we got to the stage were cars would be good for a couple weeks and then come back with the same problem. so now we just overhaul the whole system.
even the 323s do the same thing. they are piss easy to change. shouldnt take more than half an hour to do the lot.

atm your at the stage of just before it completely fails and it will

im not sure where you getting those prices from but its no where near that. ring up veales in ozzy park.

It's not the pick-ups, I just put a new one on. Gonna go get the ignition module after lunch. Then a coil if that that doesn't fix it.
