hey guys, im mitch, this is my first thread on the forum so be kind and sorry if it get asked alot, but im a noob!
i'm on my p's and drive a ba xr6 auto but this was only ever until i got off my p's so i could drive a turbo import. however i cant drive an auto falcon any longer and i want to do track days etc so of course an ae86 was first thing to pop into my head. but how fast can a n/a four really be? i still want to be able burn commodores on the street as it will be my daily. so how does your 4age match up on the street? thanks guys.

an na 4age will keep up with a commodore 6, however compared to the xr6 in a straight line you might not find it to be massively inspiring. 86's are all about being able to carry a higher speed through corners so if you're out in the further parts of the SE suburbs in melbourne you can have a lot of fun. if it's power your seeking there's a few options, an sr20det is a cheap and readily available option otherwise for n/a there's a beams 3sge or the f20c(which requires a fair bit more work if you don't want to lower the crossmember). hope this helps a little

20v plus 4.7 rear ratio in an 86 will make it fairly fast

but straight line is not there strong point

Well I could just keep up with a 6cyl ba falcon up to about 100km/h in my T18 with a dirty old push rod 1.8L 3t which was std other than exhaust and a very slightly bigger carb, but then in the twistys it just pulled away, but all depends on the driver too how bad you don't care if you crash and if you are like some of the guys I know with KE's and 86's well shell itself isn't worth much and just go for in the mountains, haha.

OR you could build a track only car and tow it with your falcon, as I here down your way cops are pretty fussy about defects, and the like?

If you're looking to be able to "burn commodores" I honestly think your looking at the wrong car. For a N/A 4 cylinder stock your better going to a Honda. Ie ITR,CTR. But then again straight line speed isn't their strong point either.

typical 16v 4age conversion into a ADM AE86 does a rough 17second to 15.5second 1/4 mile..depends on what your meaning of typical is

i have not heard of a NA 16v 4age in a AE86 do anything under 15 sec 1/4mile, but then again, im not all that into DRAGS when it comes to AE86.

But expect for a $10 000 16v 4age to do low 14s, or use that and ripe mad skids at a track..

Well there was a bloke years ago used to run 14's or something in a KE10 with a hotted up 3k.

His name is Robbie Butler, now running Butlers Toyota in Toowoomba.

His son is a member of Rollaclub, and has provided some background to this in the thread.

Sounds like you want the wrong car if you want to be racing commodores..
