Default XT130 knuckles to 86 power steer knuckles - Ball joints different size? EDIT: NOT XT130

    Car: KE70 Wagon. XT130 corona struts, knuckles & LCA's
Problem: Pulled out the XT130 Knuckles to install 86 powersteer knuckles and the XT130 ball joint shaft is too big (about 2-3mm)
Question: Do you have to chage ball joints in XT130 LCA's to use 86 powersteer knuckles?

I tried to force the 86 p/s knuckles on to the XT130 ball joint, and Don't really know, I'm no suspension guru but it looks like it may work if I tighten the hell out of it and force it down to the point where I can get the split pin back through, but am unsure if I should go this path as I'm thinking it will only go so far before the ball joint shaft will just spin.

Now I was told this set up is XT130 from the previous owner, it may be something else, I was just going on their word as I really I don't know to look iat it.

These are the 86 P/S Knuckles they have R3 and L3 stamped into them.
Do I have these machined out 2-3mm to take the XT130 Ball joints?
    What do you guys do?

So I though screw it I'll just put the XT130 knuckles back in and not worry about the 86 P/S knuckles so I can install my coilovers.....
Nope, The XT130 knuckles fit over the ball joint but are too big for the tie rod end shaft?
Where as the 86 P/S knuckles are perfect size for the tie rod end but too small for the ball joint? WTF

    ****EDIT: These where not XT130****

That is odd. I put XT130 LCA's in my car and used my pwr steering arms with the ball joints already in the LCA (looked and felt new) with no issues.

Yeah, I'm an idiot! Its tappered...I was comparing top to bottom and thats why they looked 2-3mm different.
So I had a go at it with a make shift breaker bar and I got the nut down low enough to put the split pin through.

Hahaha, I think we have all had moments like that... I found when I did up the tie rode and ball joint nuts that they will only line up once, turn it too tight and you won't get the split pin through.

It definitely was more difficult to do up the 86 p/s arms than its was to do the the XT130's?

Well the XT arms were a real pain to get off, ened up just bashing them with a hammer and eventually they budged. But doing the ball joint nut up took a bit of strength.

Yeah I hear that. The 86 p/s arm sits a bit higher on the ball joint and the Xt130 arm....but yeah i does go on.

My AE86 ps arms have R7 on them. See last photo in this thread that also may help...

If you have installed ps arms onto the ball joints and you're fitting XT130 struts back onto the ps arms you may find the end of LCA hits the back of the disc/rotor as I did. See the above mentioned thread as I had to make custom knuckles to fix the issue. Ball joint hole is in a different spot on the 86 arm to XT130 arm.
