    Default Introduction & Contact Details

Shockworks provides custom damper tuning for road and race cars. Shockworks also consults to vehicle manufacturers, tuning vehicle suspension for both high performance and passenger vehicles, including small volume concept vehicles. Fully equipped damper tuning workshop, including full dyno report and data. “On track” race team support during practice days. As with our partner Techracing we also have many years testing suspension systems and new technology components and perform ride and handling testing at Proving grounds and race tracks to meet and exceed target vehicle attributes. Shockworks can advise and support OEM damper manufacturers on how to improve valve design, warranty issues, production line repeatability and consult for ride tuning sessions with vehicle manufacturers.

Currently in development for final production valve codes to suit Australian road and tracks for AE86. These front struts will also suit most Japanese stub axle assemblies i.e Corona, Datsun 1600. From our experience we've found many of the twin-tube inserts and even some monotube struts for AE86 could be improved, finding that the roll rate is still too quick(unless of course using a very heavy spring) and vertical body movements are very abrupt, leading to the car always being unsettled which is less than fun to drive when on limit. We are initially tuning for circuit sprints and track times but are also developing a package for drift applications(working closely with a few of the top tier drifters). We separate ourselves from other damper retailers by offering full service and tuning support, including corner weighting. We offer evaluation services and advise on what you can do to improve on your car due to different wheel and tyre packages. All 86's are different and if the production setting isn't appropriate we can custom tune it for you.

We have for 12 months been searching around the globe for a damper manufacturer that meets our quality standards while remaining at a reasonable price and are happy to work closely with us to improve their range and technology. After contact being sent back and forth for months between Shockworks and Neotech we decided to take the plunge and travel to Korea. What we found was OEM quality manufacturing standards with state of the art CNC production machinery . We visited their spring and bush supplier and upon arrival discovered that both of these manufacturers are OEM suppliers for GM, Hyundai and others. We never imagined that we would have such a technical partnership with such a great damper manufacturer, this close partnership will now show through in the damper quality with class leading ride and handling.

    Hi Chris

Cant what too see what you have made for the AE86.

I would've brought something from either BC or HSD by now but im just waiting to see what items you produce.

Just a few quick simple questions.

*Are different springs rates available or are you sticking with the known theory of 8kg fronts and 6kg rears?
*Do your shocks offer damper and rebound adjustment or just rebound?
*How important to handling is damper/rebound adjustment vs rebound only?

    Cheers

    Steve

    Hey Steve,
We have a large range of spring rates available depending on what the car is to be used for. We'll be offering 6 and 4's as a street package as that's what we've tuned the damper around. Though the roll may be comparable to something with 8's and 6's as our dampers are very responsive without the ride issues that usually plague the higher rates
Our adjustment range mainly focus' on the rebound forces but also affects the lower damping velocities in the compression stroke, to improve steering response and body control.

The last question really depends who you ask. We prefer to focus on more rebound and less compression adjustment so the car still pushes through impacts and feels much more connected to the road when you wind in more damping. This also changes the off-centre steering response depending on settings front to rear.

    Many thanks.

The car will be mostly street driven with the occasional track day.

I have a mix match atm with 8/6 springs and shes all over the shop, it kind of feels too tight and doesn't absorb bumps very well.

Sway bars also, can this have an effect of steering?

Using Whiteline s/bays atm although she does have bugger all body roll lol they are pretty thick and heavy units.

Guess ill wait till you test on your AE86.

Copy from another thread i just posted in today
The problem with running a stiffer swaybar is lack of travel in the unladen side of the corner(holding the wheel up) and the lateral road copying which can also upset the car mid corner. It's a cheap alternative to get some roll angle improvement(though only mildly reducing roll speed). We always prefer to use a stiffer coil, only using the bar for final balance changes

So I live in NSW, how will I get on track assistance when I hit up Wakefield for a bit of track time?
And will youR kit be whole set? Front and rear?

I'm willing to give your product a go if price is right for a complete front and rear set
Will the front coilers be height adjustable from the base like BC and Greedy brands? And rear height adjustable also?

Will it include camber top with no extra cost?

We can't offer track assistance to people interstate unless of course they're willing to pay expenses.
The kit will include camber tops with increased angle allowance so they won't bind(common problem with the T3 tops), adjustable rear spring seats and all the usual coilover hardware. They are base height adjustable. You also have local service and tuning support so if you want something more aggressive for the track, we can certainly help you out. Both front and rear dampers are 45mm monotubes with digressive piston with 10 stage adjustment. Pricing will be $2200 for the full car set though i may be able to organise a group buy for the release of these newly developed dampers. I understand that $2200 is a big investment over the normal range of coilovers but our quality standards just won't allow us to reduce our processes and quality control in the manufacturing.

Right so big stiff sway bars arent ideal, perhaps something smaller like the cusco or trd version, although these are stiffer then stock offerings i dont think they would be anywhere near as stiff as whitelines.

Perhaps you could seek local support too product bars as well?
