Keep tuning dizzy till it pings then back it off a bit is all I did for my 3T then looked at what it was running one day and was something like a bit over 50 deg static timing haha.

motor / part in question - 4age bigport crank pulley
problem - There are no timing marks on the crank pulley for some reason
personal situation (if applicable)- Just wondering what the best way is to set the timing when the marks on the crank pulley are missing. (yes i know what they look like and where they're supposed to be.)
The best way i have thought of is to turn the crank pulley until the mark on the intake cam lines up with the "edge of the baffle in the filler cap neck" when the oil cap is removed. This would be the TDC position which i could mark with whiteout on the crank pulley. Then can I just get my protractor out, cut a wedge of paper which subtends an angle of 10 degrees and then use that to mark the position at 10 degrees BTDC?

the cam belt drive pulley should have a mark on it which lines up with a dot on the oil pump

Thanks Sam, I understand that will give me tdc, however, will my method of finding 10 degrees btdc work or is there a better way?
Use piston stop (google will have somethinga) method to gauge true TDC, use a ruler/vernier to measure the diameter of the pulley (OD) then do some maths to find how far 10BTDC is.
find TDC, make a mark :/, use a timing light that you can adjust on the gun, (eg put gun on 10 degrees BTDC, and line mark up)
MR2 should have a pointer that clears the inner belt grooves and lines up with notches on the inside of the outer belt grooves. The pointer is part of the timing belt tensioner bolt and sticks out through the timing belt cover.
